SOURCE: How to replace '96 Ford Explorer driver side exterior door handle

You will need to remove the door panel to gain access to the handle. Roll the window up or down as needed to get to the nuts that attach the handle to the door. You will also need to remove a rod the goes to the door lock. You will see the rod after the door panel is removed. Good luck.

SOURCE: i'm trying to change door locks on my 1998 ford

There may be a special tool to remove the window crank handle but there may be a small allen screw holding it on. Push in on the door panel until you can deduce what connects it. As far as pulling the door panel make sure to remove the screws for the armrest and anything else attached to it then take a large screwdriver or pry bar and start separating the panel from the door at the bottom. If you break any of the plastic mounts (which is almost unavoidable) you'll need to purchase some new ones from an auto parts store. With the door panel removed and the window down it will be fairly simple to replace the locks. Please rate this answer, thanks.
