Get the manual for it,haynes manuals on ebay are your best bet or an auto parts store if you plan on being your own mechanic on your vehichle,one of these is a must and comes in very handy,shows you step by step how to do it.

It might be best if I do not tell you the whole procedure. Please, instead, buy a copy of the Haynes auto repair manual for your Pontiac Grand Am at your local auto parts store. It ain't expensive and it does show complete instructions.

oil could be present on rear brake. clean it with brake cleaner. sand paper rear drum brake. try again if it lock

On my 2001 pontiac grand am, i pull the e-brake and the light comes on but it doesn't stop my car. What would be wrong and how could i fix it


in the case of rear disk brakes, the cable needs adjusting or the emergency brake shoes need replacing. the cable could be broken. with drum brakes, the shoes need adjusting

I'm assuming you mean drum brakes as they are the only ones with primary and secondary shoes. Not all drum brakes have a primary and secondary shoes. On drum brakes with primary and secondary shoes (called duo servo systems) the front shoe is slightly smaller than the rear one and is the primary shoe. On non servo systems, the shoes are the same size -- there is no primary or secondary shoe.

What kind of brakes are on the back of the car


Easy way to find out...look at the fronts and then look at the rears. If the rears look like the fronts then you have disc brakes in rear. If not, you have drum brakes.
