These cars were never among my favourites unlike a ford cortina ,anyway they had a electric fuel pump and whats happened is the float closes a valve and these seats on later vehicles had rubber cone type seals and i wouldnt mind betting that someone has renewed the valves with later ones with a rubber cone tip and these have now perished ,if you was local i would sort it in minutes as these cars are so simple.

B&s 22hp engine won't start

Hi Charles:
I'd start by checking the spark plug condition and function.
Wet........... no spark
Dry............ no fuel
Check for spark anyway. Hot and blue.
Try priming carb with a squirt of gas.
Drain and flush carb. You may need to remove and thoroughly clean if gummed up.

WAs in storage gas dried up and now will not it spark plugs fuel I mentors or starter?

Todays fuel goes bad in as little as a month. Try using a short spray of stater fluid to see in it is getting spark. If it tries to start, you have to clean up fuel system.

87 ford crown vic drove car last nite shut it off went to start it back up to put in driveway started to back in then it died cranked on for awhile no fuel smell at motor is there a inline fuel filter...

old car, very old, and will have lots of ignored problems and skipped maintenance. (as a rule)
do the service, do the full 60k tune up. (did you?)
it's in the manuals, all of them.
and yes, that includes, all filters,

This is a CARB car, right>? (pre 88s generally are)
what engine, lots of engine options.

on carb cars, there are 3 filters (typ)
1: a filter stock in the tank.
2: an inline filter.
3: one on carb is in the , carb fuel fitting. what carb brand?

it has a trick carb too. not conventional. a VV carb.
i log in to alldata dot com, (so can you, and should)
i see
All vehicles with the 5.8L engine are equipped with a Motorcraft 7200 Variable Venturi (VV) carburetor. Fuel is supplied to the carburetor by a mechanical fuel pump mounted on the engine. The fuel pump is driven by an eccentric attached to the front of the camshaft.
The 7200 VV carburetor is unique in that it is able to vary the venturi area according to engine speed and load, which is quite different from standard carburetors which have a fixed venturi area. The venturi area is varied by dual venturi valves that are controlled by engine vacuum and throttle position. The position of the venturi valves change, depending on engine demands, to determine the area for airflow to the two throats of the carburetor.

the fuel pressure at the pump must be good
the filters clean
if the carb float bowl is dry, the carb will never work..

no starts on all Gas cars. is
bad engine.
bad spark
bad fuel.
(there are simple tests for each)
if spark are soaked, the try super secret unflood mode.
cranking with throttle valve (right foot) wide open
all operators guides say that.
on carb cars, this unloads the choke (if not busted) and you
get mostly air to the engine. un flooding it.
same with newer cars too.

Fuel runs out of carbs when cranking engine

Sounds like the floats are stuck or not holding air.
The float works much like a toilet float. It has air inside and floats on top of the gas, shutting off the valve when the gas level is high enough.
Could also have dirt in the valve.
I know you said they were rebuilt but were they tested ?
You may have to take the carbs off and bench test them using gravity feed fuel lines.

Have to keep engine choked for car to run

possibly bad fuel pump, plugged fuel filter, dirt in carb, plugged main jet, vacuum leaks, check fuel flow at carb inlet, if good, go on to carb itself , remove carb from engine, take to work surface, disassemble carb, clean all parts with carb cleaner and a soft bristle brush, make sure all jets are clear, blow out with air if you can, reassemble carb, put back on motor, attach linkage, fuel line, try engine, luck

Fuel pump is punping gas to carburetor....but truck will not start or run unless gas is sprayed into carb manually

your float in your carb is stuck or you can have a filter in the inlet side of you carb that is plugged

Sounds like water got into the fuel system, try some fuel system cleaner in the gas tank, you may have to drain the gas out of the tank and refill with new gas

1986 ford crown victoria no start

Was there any gas in the car before you added 5 gallons? If there was, it is the problem. The gas goes bad, especially if left in the car unused that long. The system will need to be flushed out (lines, tank, carb/or injectors cleaned.
Also, carefully inspect the entire brake system, as flex. rubber lines can dry rot, steel lines may be rusty (if rust was present when parked, even though the garage is dry). You will probably need to disassemble the calipers and brake cylinders, clean them, and flush the system out. Your tires probably need to be replaced also, as they may fail under high temp conditions (dry rot). I have stored cars over the years, not always in the best conditions, and the worst thing for a car is to have it sit unused.

Try to start my 95 dodge dakota and it won't start

dont take carb off, drain fuel from tank if you got bad gas, fill with good gas, pull fuel line off carb and turn on key if have electric fuel pump, this will clean out line. get a spray can of carb cleaner from auto store and spray carb. hook up fuel line and try to start, should clean out carb with fresh fuel
