Riught up behind the panneling its easire to renew the earth and leave the existing earth wire connected as well so anything else using the same earth will work as well through the new earth.

With headlights off and brake pedal depressed, the front side-lights come on. When auto headlights come on at night, this permanently illuminates all brake lights.

Definitely either a short or a bad earth/ground. Your best bet is to find where your rear lights are wired to the body (earthed) and clean all the contacts to make sure they are all making a clean contact. You could try running a secondary earth wire from the rear light cluster to a good tight and clean grounding point on the body and see if that remedies it.
Electrical problems can be a real PITA to find.

Where is the best place to earth an amplifier in a honda accord exi 1996 boot

take the earth wire to a bolt that enters the floor/trunk of vehicle the seat belt fitting will be a good one undo the bolt you have chosen clean up the body work so shows bare metal ,use a flat blade screwdriver carefully, take enough of the insulation off the earth wire so you can wrap the bare wire twice around bolt once you have started to refit bolt ,tighten down bolt and ensure the wire is taped/cable tied out of the way of anything that might have to move at some time ie fold down rear seat that should give a good strong fitting. You may even find a body earth point in the trunk whick you could use with a snap lock connector

Brand new brake light still dim

i presume you mean new bulb ? obvious question ,have you got correct bulb? is it brake and rear light in the one bulb (double filament)? if these are all ok check for body earth trace wire from rear of light cluster and ensure the earth wire is in good condition , i'd unbolt/unscrew the wire and clean up both surfaces just to make sure of good contact

Cant get power from batt when turn the key

A possible problem, a bad electrical connection, I would remove and clean the battery earth connection to the chassis and the chassis to body. If you connect a volt meter to the battery earth terminal and an earth terminal on the body, then the engine and try to start, you should not get a reading, if you do then there is a bad connection. It is strange connecting the meter across two earths, but if there is a bad connection, power finds the easiest path, which is the meter and it will give a reading, max reading acceptable 0.5 volts

My right tail light turn signal and brake light wont work, but it's not the fuse what else could it be?

Try reseating the electrical connector that supplys the power to the light cluster/unit. Failing that, it could be an earthing problem as these lights will share a common earth point that will be grounded to the vehicle body close to the light cluster wiring plug. This earth must be in good condition with no corrosion on it in order for these lights to work. hope this is of use.

Replaced the battery in my doscover 2003 model and am now getting rough idling

Check that the earth cable from the battery to the car body has a good conection, these are very prone to tearing away from the body. ensure the connections are tight on the battery and on the car body, there is also a second main earth from the gearbox mount.

hope that helps

Ford transit 2005 rear lights not working bulbs and fuses in main box all seem in order . thanks mark

Hi Mark

Check the earth wire to the van body from thr rear lights to the body and from the main battery to the body. is the battery under the drivers seat? if so ensure the connections are good and no loose wires.

Fords have a major problem with earth wires so check as many as you can.

If still no joy get back to me.
