I haven't put on a true pressure gauge, and to be honest I'm more of an electronics person...absolutely clueless when it comes to vehicles.

almost identical here. it first happened when i was on the highway about an hour from home when i lost all oil pressure. i stopped for a minute, restarted it, and could drive about 5-10 miles before i would lose all pressure again. i repeated this procedure all the way back home. then with an oil change it stopped. but it still reoccurs periodically. my first thought was the oil pump but i would just get an oil change and it would stop for a while. now when i get an oil change it can happen a week later. from reading in this forum i think i had better get it to a mechanic.

Since this is an old post, I hope your problem is already corrected. In case you are still having issues, check your oil for small pieces of plastic, the timing chain guides are made up of plastic and can break apart. If this is the case then be prepared to shell put some bucks or giving up a weekend. Guides will have to be replaced and you might as well replace the chains while you are in there. Search the internet for the procedures on doing this. If you choose to use the chilton manuals read thru the procedure (completely) at least twice before strating.

Do u know wut the pressure has dropped to? If that is so, this is a clear indication that the oil supply is not sufficient to the moving parts. This would definitely cause knocking to occur. I strongly suggest u get this problem rectified asap, cause it can cause u an engine if u don't. It could probably be a defective oil pump or the oil circuit being blocked.

That too can be another problem also. Debris in the oil. But wut should be the next question is wut caused the debris to be in the oil. When last was the vehicle last serviced? Is there excess wear of internal engine parts? Have u drained the oil as yet to see wut is the oil's condition?

First off, do not continue to drive this vehicle. Second, it sounds as if you may have debris in the oil pan. This debris, while the engine is operating, will be drawn up to the engine oil pump pickup strainer, causing the oil pump to not be able to draw the oil in to pump it to the parts of the engine where it is needed. This needs to be fixed asap, as major permanent engine damage may be done.
