2003 Mercury mountaineer high pitch whining sounds like front passengers side- just started today - worse when you accelerate - husband thinks it might be idler pulley bearing??

If it is the idler pulley for the accessory belt, it would make the sound at all times the engine is running, not just under acceleration. I would look to the wheel bearing or the brakes on that corner of the vehicle.

After new brakes, grinding noise in rear. repair guy says need $600.00 proportion valve job! Already had new one 3 years ago.

The grinding sound could be a brake pad installed wrong or backwards. There should not be any grinding what so ever. There is a serious problem.I would take it to a shop or dealership you can trust and have it check out.

shaking when braking is caused by warped rotors. Have them resurfaced.
Bearing will cause noise that gets worse with speed and will let up when turing a certain direction.

2000 S 10, parking brake cable lost all tension ! it worked great at night when i parked it,the wife took it she said she had to pull handel and lift up parking brake pedal with her foot. any suggestions?

Sounds like there is a broken connection. There are several connections in the cable system. The cable connects to the foot control, and then to a combiner where it then splits to the two rear wheels. The last 2 connections are at each wheel. You can look under the dash and make sure it didn't become disconnected there, then I'd chase the line down about about to the front of the bed (under the vehicle) and see if the combiner is broken/disconnected.

If this was helpful, please rate it highly. Thanks, Jake

I having a 2007 Sienna with tapping noise from axle or brake sys

It just makes this tapping noise when you foot is on the brake pedal or does it go away when you touch the brake pedal? It sounds like a warped rotor.

replacing rotors is not an easy job but its not all that hard either, brake pads and calipers have to be removed, then the rotor, if your husband doesn't feel comfortable doing this i suggest you take it to a garage, they are your brakes after all :)
