Question about 2000 Chevrolet Blazer

1 Answer

My car HATES me! Could it be timing belt?

Would LOVE some help with this one. Have a 2000 Chevy Blazer 6 Cylinder automatic. Started smelling burning Radiator fluid, car overheated. Thermostat is new, bypassed the heater core. Drove it the next day. Temp gauge registered all the way up to 260 then shot down to 100, car started making rattling sound, then shut down (no acceleration) while driving down the interstate. (I was thanking my higher powers I wore boots that day instead of high heels:) Opened the hood and nothing was hot (engine, radiator, radiator fluid in resevoir, etc.). Tried to start it back up and it was not cooperating. Finally got it somewhat started and it was really rough- billowing smoke out of the tailpipe and still registering at the highest temp and making a loud clacking/rattling sound. Car died about 1000 feet down the road. Some people are telling me it's the timing belt.

Any guidance- direction would be greatly appreciated. $ is tight right now in this economy, and being a woman I'm a little leary of getting screwed around at a dealership. I can follow the directions in the car book well as long as I know what to fix or replace.

Thanks for the response. I was not aware that that site was out there. Very helpful! I gave up on the car. Now burning a BUNCH of oil out the back and won't even idle. Doesn't sound like it's even running on all cylinders. I traded it in for a toyota corolla. Just called the Dealership up and told them it won't start and they need to come and tow it :) hee hee. I have now checked Chevy's off my list.

Hello, is there any coolant in the radiator. Usually when the temp guage acts like that it is because you ran out of coolant. Let me know and I'll help you figure this out.

I have a 99 chevy lumina it started squealing where the belt is everytime I touch the gas it gets louder it has a 3.1 6 cylinder

Either it needs a new belt or the automatic belt tensioner is going out. Could even be a pulley that's frozen

Car heater blowing cold air and rubber burnning

If your heater is spraying a light mist through your vents it could be your heater coil. Mine did the same thing, smell rubber burning, then started a light mist through the vents. If you don't get that checked out, it could mess up your water pump and possibly your engine

98 Chevy Blazer 6 cylinder. Just replaced timing chain, ran good for 30min. died in middle of road. Towed it back and opened it up again, timing chain was fine. Put it back together and started it up, ran...

This sounds like a fuel starvation issue.
Is the engine running smoothly? Have you checked the injectors? What warning lights are on the dashboard?
Running the engine at idle, put some injector cleaner through the system. The only other reason could be a faulty engine sensor of some kind.
