Question about 2000 Chevrolet Blazer
Would LOVE some help with this one. Have a 2000 Chevy Blazer 6 Cylinder automatic. Started smelling burning Radiator fluid, car overheated. Thermostat is new, bypassed the heater core. Drove it the next day. Temp gauge registered all the way up to 260 then shot down to 100, car started making rattling sound, then shut down (no acceleration) while driving down the interstate. (I was thanking my higher powers I wore boots that day instead of high heels:) Opened the hood and nothing was hot (engine, radiator, radiator fluid in resevoir, etc.). Tried to start it back up and it was not cooperating. Finally got it somewhat started and it was really rough- billowing smoke out of the tailpipe and still registering at the highest temp and making a loud clacking/rattling sound. Car died about 1000 feet down the road. Some people are telling me it's the timing belt.
Any guidance- direction would be greatly appreciated. $ is tight right now in this economy, and being a woman I'm a little leary of getting screwed around at a dealership. I can follow the directions in the car book well as long as I know what to fix or replace.
You might find this Interesting. Look at Edmonds.com at the Recalls, Complaints, and Service Bulletins on this Truck. Thank God I found a Buyer for ours before it got any worse. Not that it was GOOD! I am an ASE Certified Mechanic and Pulled my hair out for 2 Years trying to fix this Problem that you have and MANY Others! To make it worse, The Dealerships know about the Problems and will only give you 2,500 Dollars for trade no matter WHAT Condition!!!!
