SOURCE: How do I do an oil change for 2006 GMC Canyon?

Lift your GMC Canyon using a jack and set the truck on jack stands. If you don't have jack stands then use a set of wheel ramps. Make sure you brace the front tires so the truck doesn't roll. (safety first) Pop the hood and take off the oil filler cap and remove the dipstick. Gather an oil drip pan, cleaning cloths, new oil filter, and adjustable crescent wrench and then slide under the truck. Locate the oil drain plug and filter. Loosen and then remove the oil plug and pull it out quickly. Let the used oil drain for 10 to 15 minutes into the drip pan. Take off the filter using an oil filter wrench. Check the gasket and threads for damage and dump the extra oil into the drip pan. Clean off any excess oil and replace with new oil filter. Put the oil drain plug back in (tighten it) and slide out from underneath your truck. Add new oil (approx 5 quarts) inside the oil filler hole and replace the dipstick and then tighten the oil cap. Lower your truck and start the engine for a minute so that oil pressure builds up. After you are done with the oil change, turn the ignition key to "run" and then hit the gas pedal three times to reset the oil change light.

SOURCE: Rear Main Oil Seal leak 2008 GMC Canyon

I think this is for an oil level sensor. Should be easy to change , or a shop can do it for a nominal charge. The dealerships will want more.

I was told there was a milky film around my oil cap he thought it could be a blown casket

Sometimes condensation will build up on your oil cap...So a milky substance on your cap doesn't necessarily mean you have a blown head gasket. Check your dipstick to see if it looks like chocolate milk. If it does, then you might have a cracked block or head gasket issue.

Engine light is on my GMC 2006 Canyon. I was told by a mechanic that it was a solenoid where is it on my truck and can i do it myself. Thanks

if the eng light is the ignition one it shows the generator isnt working, if its the oil light which means low oil pressure on a diesel engine the light can be the fuel cut off solinoid

1994 subburban.5.3Lthink maybe got a bad intake gasket

these engines are known for intake gasket leaks and head gasket leaks.

Do a search on dextron gm coolant ( the orange looking stufff)

This coolant is very corrosive and GM has had lots of complaints.

Best bet is to go have yout truck inspected.
