I have a 2012 dodge ram with the 6.7 cummins it runs fine on a full tank of fuel, but once it get down to a 1/4 tank it loses power hesitates and runs bad . Scanner says low fuel rail pressure. Any ideas...

Had the same problem on my Ram. Ram has two fuel pumps, there is a small booster pump up front mounted to the filter housing. The front pump is small and is prone to failure I was told especially if you had a cold spell and your fuel gelled a little. That is what happened to mine, replaced it and ran like new again.

Changed computor wont start

FIRST CHECK YOUR FUEL PUMP TO ENSURE IT IS WORKING PROPERLY, THEN DO A FUEL PRESSURE TEST. AN AVERAGE READING WILL READ BETWEEN 15 AND 30 LBS. THEN YOU NEED TO BE MORE SPECIFIC IS IT GAS OR DIESEL IF IT IS A DIESEL THEN YOU NEED TO LOOK INTO INJECTOR PRESSURE THE AVERAGE CUMMINS COMMON RAIL PRESSURE AVERAGES AROUND 5,000 TO 8,000 PSI ANYTHING LESS THAN 5,000 PSI THE TRUCK WILL NOT START OR WILL BE HARD TO START.

2006 dodge mega cab 4x4 cummins w/6sp started fine this morning and now it will not start about 2 years ago the same thing happened and had to reprogram something, it had something to do with the starter...

Your truck needs to be hooked up to a scan tool so the common rail fuel pressure can be checked.
Have you checked to see if your fuel lift punp is operating to transfer fuel from your tank to the high pressure CP3 fuel pump?
Could possibly be the FCA (fuel control actuator) located on the back of the CP3 pump. It controls the fuel pressure in the high pressure fuel system.

Bad Injectors are also a known cause for no start on these trucks.

WARNING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Do not unhook any fuel injection lines from the CP3 or Fuel rail or Injector cross over tubes while cranking or running as this fuel pressure varie from 4000 psi to 23000 psi when running.

How do you know if your fuel pump is going out

The best diagnostic for the fuel pump is a pressure test. Need to know the specs on it (should be around 40-60 PSI), hook it up to a fuel pump tester and there you go.

The symptoms the engine presents when a fuel pump is going bad could include:

- hard to start
- hesitation
- loss of power upon acceleration
- going dead at idle
- others...

But other problems could cause these same symptoms.

99 dodge 2500 5.9 cummins fuel pressure at 3psi

The 3 psi is caused by a failed transfer pump. The problem the loss of could be the VP44 injection pump. This pump should be run at min 7psi. I had the same fuel pressure problem. I replaced my stock transfer pump with a FASS DDRP from www.usdieselparts.com. The stock pump is over $200 to replace and will fail again, sometimes right out of the box. The DDRP will supply about 15psi to the pump and is simple to install. I hope this helps.

Subaru 1993 legacy rough start with backfire/missfire.

O2 sensors do not cause any kind of starting problems, what can is a dirty upper intake and loss of fuel pressure after the pump turns off.
Here is what I would like you to do, run a fuel pressure leak-down test on the system, to do this you will need a fuel pressure tester, this connects to the fuel pressure test port that is in the fuel supply rail that connects to the fuel injectors, it looks like a metal tire valve, the tester is about $15 at any Kragen or store like it, hook the tester up and verify no leaks, then run the engine and make a note of the fuel pressure reading, shut it of nd let it sit, the pressure should not drop more than 5 PSI overnight, if it does the fuel pump is defective as the check valve in the pump has failed, this allows fuel to drain back to the tank and creates a lean condition when the car is 1st started, result, rough running, long cranking times..
