Question about 2001 Oldsmobile Alero
I am putting in 1/2 gal coolant daily..need water light comes on but temp guage doesnt go above normal operating temp. cant figure out whats leaking..Had taken car to shop after replacing engine for misfire in cyc#1...car came back with a water leak and also oil that pools around a bolt on top cover (spark plugs are underneath) imprinted with 2.4.
Look around the sides of the motor. Aleros are famous for faulty pan gaskets. Ours has been in the shop twice for this. If the mechanic doesn't get it put in just right it will continue to leak.

If you had the engine replaced and have the same leak, it may be be somewhere else. You can rent a tool from most parts stores that pressurizes the cooling system. If you get that tool, top off the coolant and follow instructions to pressurize that system, you may be able to see where it's leaking. While it's under pressure, take a flashlight or shop light and look in all the main areas. (hose connections, radiator, water pump, ect)
