Question about 1997 Ford F150 Regular Cab

1 Answer

1997 Ford F-150 engine will not turn over

This has happened intermittently, but more often lately. I turn the key and the dashboard lights come on but no starter..I turn again and nothing after several times it may turn over and start. The battery is new. It's not in gear. How do I know whether it is the ignition switch or the starter.

Your check engine light must be on. To pull up your codes Put your key into ignition and turn key ON,OFF,ON,OFF and finally ON.The codes will show on your dash. From what you described it seems to me you may have a bad CRANKSHAFT SENSOR and MAF SENSOR. GOOD LUCK FRIEND.

Turn the key and nothing happens

check the neutral safty switch, if this is bad it will not start in park. put it ineutral and see if it starts. if so switch is bad. also the vehicles made lately have a switch in back of brake pedal witch means brake has to be pressed to start car. check safety switch first.

Ford f-150

Check the actuator rod that goes to the ignition switch. It runs along the top of the steering column. I have thew same year and model. Had the exact same problem. All lights work, engine wouldn't turn over.
