I have a 2003 Ford F150. When I press the button on the controller to floor the heat comes out the defrost. I can switch from defrost to vent. When I press the vent & floor button it changes to the defrost.
Thanks,
Rich

You have a vacuum leak.Defrost is the default postion(no vacuum).
See if you can locate the small black vacuum line that goes inside the vehicle on the passenger side near the heater core. The trace it back, should see it going to a canister then to the intake manifold.Make sure it is not disconnected or broken somewhere.

Sounds like you have a supply vacuum problem. When you lose supply vacuum to the control head it defaults to defrost.

Hope I was avle to help, glad you up and going.
You did not mention if the system you have is electronic(digital control) or manual(control knobs) but what your problem is, is a vacuum leak. Defrost and heat or the default postions for no vacuum. If it works ok until you press max air Then you will need to check the outside blend door vacuum motor. It will be the white vacuum line going from the control head.
