Mar 8, 2018 - If the EGR Valve Sticks Open: A rough idle upon starting the engine (that is, when the engine is cold) and sometimes at a stop light or while looking for a spot in a parking lot (that is, at low engine speeds in a warmed-up engine). Stalling when the engine idles. Increase in fuel consumption.
Aug 17, 2017 - Before removing anything, check that the replacement EGR valve you've bought looks identical to the old one with the same connections and fittings. If the EGR valve has vacuum pipes to it, label them before twisting and pulling the pipes off by hand, being careful not to break or stretch them too much.

Jul 4, 2008 - A scan tool will show both trouble codes and live data related to the EGR valve. It may also have a function for remote EGR valve control. A valve that is found to be bad should be replaced. If EGR-related problems persist after valve replacement, the issue may be the EGR passages in the intake manifold or ...

Sep 5, 2017 - A bad EGR valve is no longer able to control emissions and drastically reduces fuel economy. Here are the signs that you need to get yours looked at.
there does not need to be marks on a harmonic balancer to adjust valves
when a piston is on tdc the valves will be either completely closed or in the valve rock position
when adjusting valve clearence you will need to know the firing order because when no 1 piston is ready to fire , then the next piston to fire will be in the valve rock position
for example if no1 piston of a 6 cylinder ( firing order 153642) is at tdc firing both valves will be closed and so the valves of no5 piston will be rocking so that will be the nect piston valves to adjust and after that no3 piston valves will rock so you do no 5 valves and so on
a workshop manual will explain it all to you
The valve adjustment usually isnt done unless there is valve noise. If you think its valve noise, have the dealer check it or a shop that does a LOT of Toyota work. Special tools and shims are needed to adjust the valves. Its a LOT of work and will not be cheap. You will want to replace the spark plugs at the same time.
You'll find the PCV valve
on the right side of the front valve cover. You'll need to remove the
valve in order to troubleshoot it to determine if you need a
replacement. To remove, pull the PCV valve out of the cover and detach
the old PCV valve to determine if it needs replacing. Blow air through
it in order to see if it is clogged. If it does not seem to ventilate,
then you'll need to install a new valve.
the new PCV valve into the spot of the old valve. With the correct
part, it should snap right in. Take the hose and reattach it in order
to complete the installation.
Does not have adjustable valves . It has hydrolic valve lasher's . they are spring loaded ( i believe ) . I just replaced them in mine . valve giude seal's where worn out causing it to smoke realy bad ( looked like a mosqito truck ) and the valves where ticking , due to the hydrolic valve lash adjuster's being worn out . They are about $ 8 - 10 buck's each at advance .
