SOURCE: 92' Cavalier 2.2L 4 cyl. runs but has a miss coming from #4 cyl.

Matter not whether plug fires out of engine. Put it back in and clamp a timing ligh to it. If the light won't fire, you don't have enough spark to fire cylinder, hense miss.

When you change the crank sensor you need a scan tool to set them. The distributor has to be turned using a scan tool to get the crank sensor dialed in.

Hey i just helped my friend put a motor in is 99 gt, it turns over but no spark from the coils, ive tried eveything i can think of and still nothing

what motor?

Is the PCM power relay activating? If yes, you should hear the fuel pump hum for 5 seconds when the key is turned to ON.

If yes, then check the crankshaft position sensor and camshaft position sensors to be sure they have output to the PCM.

The crankshaft position sensor:
  • sends the powertrain control module a signal indicating crankshaft position.
  • is essential for calculating spark timing.
Crankshaft Position Sensor (Integrated Ignition Systems) The crankshaft position (CKP) sensor is a magnetic transducer mounted on the engine block adjacent to a pulse wheel located on the crankshaft. By monitoring the crankshaft mounted pulse wheel, the CKP is the primary sensor for ignition information to the powertrain control module (PCM). The trigger wheel has a total of 35 teeth spaced 10 degrees apart with one empty space for a missing tooth. The 6.8L ten cylinder pulse wheel has 39 teeth spaced 9 degrees apart and one 9 degree empty space for a missing tooth. By monitoring the trigger wheel, the CKP indicates crankshaft position and speed information to the PCM. By monitoring the missing tooth, the CKP is also able to identify piston travel in order to synchronize the ignition system and provide a way of tracking the angular position of the crankshaft relative to fixed reference (Figure 23) .

Camshaft Position Sensor The camshaft position (CMP) sensor detects the position of the camshaft. The CMP sensor identifies when piston No. 1 is on its compression stroke. A signal is then sent to the powertrain control module (PCM) and used for synchronizing the firing of sequential fuel injectors. The Coil On Plug (COP) Ignition applications also use the CMP signal to select the proper ignition coil to fire. The input circuit to the PCM is referred to as the CMP input or circuit.
There are two types of CMP sensors: the three pin connector Hall-effect type sensor (Figure 20) and the two pin connector variable reluctance sensor (Figure 21).

  • Disconnect TP sensor.
  • Key on, engine off.
  • Measure voltage between VREF and SIG RTN circuit at the TP sensor harness connector. Refer to the schematic in Pinpoint Test DH .
Is voltage between 4.0 and 6.0 volts? -------- A17 CHECK PCM DRIVER TO COILS
  • Connect incandescent test lamp between B+ and each coil driver circuit at the harness connector.
  • Crank engine.
Does lamp blink consistently and brightly (one blink per engine revolution)?

I have a 2002 1500 4X4 suburban it started with oil leak so a macanic took tranny out to put rear main seal new and everything back together now security light flashes and wont start

try one simple thing, reset the computer by disconnecting positive cable from battery for 10 mins.also make sure the crankshaft sensor is plugged back in,will not start without it.he may have missed it when removal of may even have to reset the trucks computer, disconnect the positive cable from battery for 10mins.. this will accept any new products,i'm sure they had to unplug the 02 sensors to remove the transmission! this will help, is it getting fuel? if not,try fuel pump fuse,or relay. is it getting fire to plugs? if not, something is not plugged back in right. suggest you check under and on top of motor for a missed plug in. it was running when they replaced rear seal?go from there. hope this helps and thank you for choosing chat support is available, phone support also.

I keep getting code num 1 cly miss fire i have changed the spark plug wires fuel injector the coil omes out ok what else am i missing

A compression test should be taken at least of the # 1 cylinder to be certain that there is no mechanical mis-fire, and if the compression is good then the ignition module located under the ignition coils is most likely faulty or there could be a missing tooth on the tone ring for the crankshaft sensor. That is the DTC P0301 that you are having a problem with?

Spark plugs is miss firing

Check timing chain. Aim a timing light at the crankshaft marks. If the mark is jumping all over the place, your chain has jumped, and will need to be replaced.

1990 SUBARU LEGACY problems

Check for water in spark plug tubes, ign. wire connector ends & coil pack for corrosion.
All marks go up, the crankshaft sprocket has an arrow that you don't use! if you position the crank sprocket where the key way is down you'll notice that the sprockect has a timing mark at the top of one of the sensor pickup teeth, use that. Here is a rough home made pic. I hope this pic made it, no conformation that it did.
