Question about Cars & Trucks

Open Question

After replacing a gas cap on my 2002 Toyota Tacoma to fix an evap code, the OBD tool is unable to check codes. The check engine light is off and I have run my vehicle the recommended length of time with the proper amount of fuel. I am unable to obtain a sticker for the state of MA because the state inspection diagnostic computers are unable to read the data compiled by the computer in my Tacoma.

SOURCE: 1996 Chevy Blazer check engine light on

More then likely its the Canister Purge Solenoid. you can find it online at www.autozone.com the part number is PV140. And to replace it on blazer you have to remove the spare tire. Alot of people don't know where this part is so I hope this helps you and good luck.

Have a 2004 Grand Prix GT the check engine light is had It scanned and came up with evap leak replaced gas cap but didn't fix it.Could it be the evap canister

yes it could be a leak at canister but guessing and throwing parts in and hoping you fix it is wasting time and money --when gas cap change did you clear code ---if code was cleared and if it came up with leak there are hose lines from fuel tank to canister --to solenoid --from engine front to back of vehicle -as well as solenoid connections at engine ----not just a canister to check --check all hose lines for damage/ disconnection ---have car rechecked for code and with code number go to OBD-CODES.com they explain in laymans terms what it means and suggestions on how to repair

2004 jeep grand cherokee code 442/455

OBD code P0442 Small EVAP leak detected you may need to check the EVAP canister under the vehicle and the purge valve as well check for cracks on the canister or the purge valve and check all the rubber hoses connected to them foe cracks or holes. If you find any damage parts replace them. P0455 which means a large EVAP leak is sometimes referred as the gas cap leak check your gas cap and secure it tight if you still have the code change the gas cap hope this helps after you find and fix the problems get the vehicle to a shop and they will use an OBD scan tool to clear the codes.

Check engine light is on- reason- Evap emission control system malfunction- code PO440

Causes: A code P0440 could mean one or more of the following has happened:
* The gas cap is not installed or working properly
* The purge solenoid has failed
* The canister is plugged and not working properly

Possible Solutions: With a P0440 OBD-II trouble code, diagnosis can be tricky at times. Here are some things to try:
* Remove and reinstall the gas cap, clear the code, and drive for a day and see if the codes come back.
* Inspect the EVAP system for cuts/holes in tubes/hoses
* Inspect for damaged or disconnected hoses around the Evap purge solenoid
* Check and/or replace the sensor
* Check and/or replace the purge valve
* Have a professional use a smoke machine to detect leaks

Hope helps (remember to rate this).

The gas cap was not sufficiently tightenend ater fueling, a bad gas-cap rubber o-ring, the vehicle had the key in the 'on', or engine running, or the tank was filed all of the way up the neck.

Any one of the abope causes will set all three codes.

Check engine code "P0446 Evap Control System Vent Control Circ"

Unfortunately, this code has nothing to do with the gas cap....
A code P0446 could mean one or more of the following has happened:
  • Faulty vent valve
  • Open, short or excessive resistance on Vent valve control circuit
  • Blockage of vent valve
  • Bad PCM
Here are some things you could try to fix it:
  • Replace Vent valve
  • Repair open, short, or resistance problem in control circuit
  • Repair open, or short, or resistance problem in power circuit

Obd code p0440 for check engine light on 2000 Toyota Corolla

p0440 code means that the evap system has a leak. This could be caused by a bad or improperly installed gas cap. Either that or the purge solenoid has failed or the canister is plugged and not working properly.
