Question about 2002 Hyundai Accent
Have your mechanic install a bypass switch for the compressor. Then you can control if the a/c is functioning, regardless of the other climate control settings.

FYI - The reason for the AC kicking in is to remove humidity from inside vehicle, which allows for faster defrost, and less build up of moisture on windows etc. This is common on all vehicles with AC. Only remedy would be to pull wire connector off compressor. Remember though, It will take longer to defrost, and try to remember to hook it back up once in a while to keep your compressor working, so it doesn't seize up from not being used.
