Have your mechanic install a bypass switch for the compressor. Then you can control if the a/c is functioning, regardless of the other climate control settings.

FYI - The reason for the AC kicking in is to remove humidity from inside vehicle, which allows for faster defrost, and less build up of moisture on windows etc. This is common on all vehicles with AC. Only remedy would be to pull wire connector off compressor. Remember though, It will take longer to defrost, and try to remember to hook it back up once in a while to keep your compressor working, so it doesn't seize up from not being used.

Heat does not blow onto windscreen but blows through other vents - whats wrong

What make an model an year vehicle do you have ? The air blows out of the floor vents an center vents but not defrost ? Possible mode actuator , stuck mode door ! There is a door inside the heater / A/C assembly that directs the air to the desired position . These doors can be moved by a vacuum operated actuator or an electric motor . Sometimes thing's put on the dash end up inside the heater box , fall through defroster vent ! Pens , pencils etc.. Depends on the make vehicle an system , manual , or automatic climate control . Some of the newer vehicles the HVAC system as it is called , the control panel is a electronic control module an can store DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes !

Do you have to disconnect the air con to get at the second bolt to remove the alternator

That is up to you. The more stuff you get out of the way, the easier it will be to remove your alternator. Disconnecting air connectors is not difficult, just mark it so you know how to put it back together.

No vacuum at air con vent control knob in vu commodore

check small vacuum hose on rear of square inlet manifold top that goes throught firewall ( bulkhead ) is not cracked or has come off
it goes into cab near heater hoses. this is the vacuum supply hose
if you have no vacuum the heater controls default to go to windscreen. also check the black & white plastic little round one way valve for leaks & operation
also check vacuum hose that goes onto heater tap that is in right inner gaurd under brake master cylinder area for leaks and that its on the heater tap valve
if they are all ok check inside do you hear any hissing noises behind dash controls or down at front centre console area?

2007 Chrysler 300. When outside temperature is below 30 degrees, I cannot keep the windows clear of moisture and fog. Even the defroster on high has difficulty clearing and keeping the windows clear. I do...

If your car has an air conditioner turn it on as well as the heater . Air conditioned air is very dry and usually defrosts the windscreen quickly. The heat from the heater will overcome the cold air from the air/con. It is good for the air/con to be run during the winter months as well as summer, it stops the seals drying out and leaking refrigerent.

I have a 1999 dodge caravan , there is a sound that seems to be comming from the glovebox i sounds like a printer running when i turn the heat on it smells like plastic burning what can this be

Hi there,

Does this noise occur at all times, or only when you operate the heater/air con?

If the latter, then as a guess, I would suspect perhaps a leaf (or other foreign particle) has entered your vehicle's air inlet (below your windscreen or front air intake) and made its way down to your heater BLOWER FAN.

Alternatively, there could be a short or burnt component, causing the smell.

Would require someone who knows how to get into the blower assembly, to check for possible culprit.

Cheers,

Heater/air con

The heater resister switch has gone. You need to strip out the box and put a new switch in which costs around £20
