Take it to the nearest auto zone or shop that checks the oil pumpfree it could be its bad or that your valves are going, also change your motor oil and add stp oil treatment with it : )

Take the vehicle to Auto Zone or another parts store that will read the engine fault code from the ECM for you. Most will do it for free. Depending on how long it has been since you replaced the plugs and wires on your vehicle you may have a bad spark plug or plug wire that is causing the problem. Easy enough to fix if you don't have to pull the air intake assembly to change the back 3 plugs. If you do have to pull this you should get a chiltons repair manual so you ahve instructions on how to remove and replace the intake assembly.

SOURCE: 2001 mazda tribute v6 runs rough cold ildes at

I replaced the upper & lower manifold runners seals, now it runs perfect, The reason it runs ok when warm is because the manifolds expand and seal the gaps on the surfaces that the worn old seals are not closing. Also change the spark plugs.

Hello Jason, I would say it does not have enough oil pressure or maybe the oil sender unit is bad. Did you check the oil level?

Oil pressure light at idle

when the light comes on at idle do you notice any engine noise different from the norm.if not then the oil pressure sensor(ops) is bad/weak and will need to be changed.if you hear abnormal noise with the light on then you will have to have teh oil pressure checked to see if its within specs.

replace all the "o" ring rubber seals for the intake manifold system. they leak when they are old and cold, until engine warms them up. the kit is cheap $20. the labour is going to cost more. this fixed my 01 tribute.

Engine light is on and it dont want to idle but it dont do that when its wormed up

One of the temp sensors is failing and indicating the motor is warm before it is. This creates a lean condition. Get the OBD codes scanned.

2002 mazda tribute v6 stalls intermittently when you let off the gas pedal....seems to do it only when it is warm and again very intermittently. Vehicle has 110k for miles.

You need to have a scan done and pay close attention to the throttle position sensor and the idle air control .

Also (since we have so little information to work with) check your engine compartment while it is running and listen to see if you have a vacuum leak. See if you hear a hissing sound.

A vacuum leak will cause it to stall after it is warmed up. The computer will keep it running at a higher RPM until it warms up and with a vacuum leak it will stall when the idle comes down to the 600-700 level.

Hope this helps.

Oil light comes on intermittantly at idle RPM; off at higher RPM. Car was just in for maintenance and oil level appears to be OK.

Probably the engine bearings are getting a little worn. Using 10/40 instead of 10/30 oil will improve idle oil pressure as will replacing the oil pump and cleaning the intake screen. Make sure the idle speed is set correctly.
