2001 Toyota Camry code P0504.

Go to auto zone scan the code it is free.

It is 1-3-4-2 with No 1 being at the timing belt and crank pulley end.

Then what happened with diagnosing the check light
issue first,before all the other stuff

Do you not know about checking for codes when
any dash light stays on after the motor is running?

If its running that bad I would suspect the check engine light is on and/or flashing. If so you best start would be to find out what trouble codes are stored in the engines computer.

Check engine light comes on and off, these are indication that there is some error code stored in your vehicles ECM. The engine module computer needs to be scanned. These will give the code and as per the error code the further problem can be detected and confirmed. The engine light indicator blinks or remains steady on dash when engine computer noticed any problem with any engine electrically operated components.

yes. the engine light means there is a diagnostic trouble code that has to be retrieved with a scanner at repair shop. You should be able to drive vehicle but performance will be lacking. One or more sensors are malfunctioning and must be replaced, before future engine performance will be compromised.. .

Actually, in today's cars on the road, a check engine light can mean literally hundreds of different things on the engine or transmission.

I would have the car scanned to see what codes have been stored in the computer to get a clue as to what is wrong with the vehicle's engine.

A rough idle could be caused by a coil pack, a tps problem would be more like a miss on acceleration kind of symptom.

However, before changing expensive parts, it would probably pay to have the codes scanned.

yes it could be a fuel related problem, when was your last tune up, it could also be a spark issue, old or corroted spark plugs will sometimes not put out the correct amount of heat to ignite the gas correctly till it runs for a while, if the check engine light isnt lit, it will almost have to be something simular to this
