This morning car started fine, (although last night I'd heard a knocking sound), as I was driving the car was getting slower and slower, like losing power, then eventually stopped. It would not restart, won't even turn over, nothing!
It has fuel and battery is OK, any ideas what it could be so I don't get ripped off at the garage?

There could be many causes for a small leak, including foreign debris, small crack or loose hose. Using just water with no antifreeze can damage your radiator in sub 32 temps so always mix with coolant/antifreeze. One temp solution is buying stop leak from a auto part store, another remedy I've heard work is putting black pepper (finely ground) in your system to stop small leaks and it actually works. Good luck.
you don't have a choke. Could be the linkage hanging up for sure. Have it checked by a pro ASAP. Although it's kinda easy to replace, its easy to go wrong if you don't know what you are doing and safety should always come first.
try my last solution posted, connectors on renault clios renouned for corroded electrical connection car guaranteed to start unless car needs replacement loom these also prone to fail very bad design of wiring connections they did a better job in the 70s
