Too long to write out but here are the essentials: Remove the center bolt that holds the front axle into the hub. (usually very tight...around 150 lbs torque....sometimes helps to have a shop loosen it and then put it back tight but less tight so you can remove it when you get it home)
Remove the caliper and rotor. Remove the three bolts that hold the bearing hub to the steering knuckle.
Soak the parting line between the hub and knuckle with wd40 or other solvent and use a chisel on alternating sides to work the hub free.
Clean and lube the cavity where the hub goes through the knuckle and reverse the process to re-install.

Yes the bearings can be changed on this truck. The bearing races will need to be removed from the rotor to do this use a punch and hammer once the rotor is removed. You will need inner bearing and race, outer bearing and race, and a seal, plus grease to pack the bearings. The hub on these trucks is the rotor. Please rate.

There are two bearings on teh front wheel, an inner and an outer bearing. Changing them is not hard if you are mechanically inclined. What you do is, jack the front end up to lift the wheel off the ground and put a jackstand to support the vehicle and put a block on teh rear wheels...DO NOT USE THE JACK ONLY!!!

Once the vehicle is up, remove the wheel to access the disc brakes.

Remove the caliper from the rotor and place it somewhere in the wheel well where the brake line will not be stressed...THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT...the job gets a LOT harder if the brake line breaks!

Next, remove the bearing cap to reveal the cotter pin and bearing nut, remove the cotter pin and nut DO NOT LOSE THESE!!!

You will see the outer bearing, remove it, the washer, and the race then pull the rotor off to reveal the inner bearing, race, and grease seal; remove these, DO NOT FORGET HOW THEY CAME OFF!!!

Clean the spindle and the rotor meaning get all the dirt and crud...this has to be squeaky clean or dirt will get inside and you will be replacing your bearings again in a couple of months.

Now, you need to pack the inner bearing with grease...what I do is wear nitrile gloves and scoop a handful of grease out of the container into the palm of my hand, then I take the new bearing and push it into the grease ensuring grease is in the bearing and coming out the other side.

Next install the grease seal, inner bearing and race by following the removal steps in reverse order. While you're at it, put a good amount of grease on the spindle...there is no such thing as too much grease.

Slide the rotor on until it makes with the inner bearing, make sure the rotor is on straight, if you can't get it straight the inner bearing is not on straight so do the inner bearing again to get it on straight and then put the rotor on...it should slide easily on with no resistance and rotate freely.

Now pack the outer bearing the same way you packed the inner bearing and slide it on the spindle. Install the washer, this will most likely have a tab on it to align the spindle, make sure the washer is on correctly.

Now you are going to reinstall the nut but only hand tighten it for now because you are going to have to spin the rotor forwards and backwards to ensure it rotates freely and is straight.

Once you determine the rotor is straight and rotates freely, tighten the nut about a quarter turn (no more than 16 foot-pounds). If the nut is castellated, ensure it is lined up with the hole in the spindle. Now install a new cotter pin...IT HAS TO BE NEW, using the old one increases the risk of the pin breaking which will let the nut loosen which will end up with your wheel coming off, most likely while you're doing 80 on the Interstate.

Once the cotter pin is installed and bent, fit the cap back on. The pin should be bent sufficiently to allow the cap to be tapped on.

Now reinstall the caliper and pads, put the wheel back on and you are done!

It's a pretty straight forward job make sure you replace both the inner and outer wheel bearing and also make sure you replace the inner and outter bearing races located inside the brake rotor if you don't know or don't have the correct tools to replace the races then just but a new brake rotor ..it will have the races already pressed in it. Make sure not to over tighten the outter nut that holds the rotor and bearing in place . the best way to tighten it is to tighten it all the way down with a wrench to seat the bearings then loosen it back up till you have play in the rotor and bearing again ... then while spinning the who;e rotor and bearing assembly with one hand turn the nut as tight as you can with your fingures and then install your nut retainer and cotter pin. Spin the whole brake rotor after installing the nut retainer and cotter pin to check for excessive play .You should do the other side also if one failed chances are the other will shortly.

Check the wheel hub bearing, jack so the wheel is off the ground, if the wheel can be moved in any direction 360 degrees, then the bearing is bad. If the wheel will move by pulling up and down then it's the balljoint, just back and forth, it's ths tierod.

Please replace your wheel bearings before you drive it anymore. It could possibly cause the wheel to come off and go into your wheel well. Your wheel bearings are bad..Depending on how much you drove it after hearing it, you may need a new spindle also.

sounds like a wheel bearing,to check jack it up on that wheel then from top to bottom grab the tire and then try to move it up and down like your trying to pull it off if it moves alot its bad.no it doesnt take any special tools but it is difficult to remove.to replace the bearings they need to be pressed out and back in,or you can buy the whole unit,cost wise it only about 75.00 difference.

NOTE: After the wheel bearings have been removed or replaced or the front axle has been reassembled be sure to adjust wheel bearing preload. Refer to the Adjustment service procedure below. On the 1989–92 240SX there is just one wheel bearing, pressed into the hub and no adjusting cap. Refer to the exploded views of the Front Axle Hub Assembly. Review the complete service procedure.
  1. Raise and support the vehicle safely.
  2. Remove the front wheels and the brake caliper assemblies. NOTE: Brake hoses do not need to be disconnected from the brake caliper assemblies. Make sure the brake hoses are secure and do not let caliper assemblies hang unsupported from the vehicle.
  3. Work off center hub cap by using thin tool. If necessary tap around it with a soft hammer while removing.
  4. Pry off cotter pin and take out adjusting cap and wheel bearing lock nut.
  5. Remove wheel hub with disc brake rotor from spindle with bearings installed. Remove the outer bearing from the hub.
  6. Remove inner bearing and grease seal from hub using long brass drift pin or equivalent.
  7. If it is necessary to replace the bearing outer races, drive them out of the hub with a brass drift pin and mallet.
  8. Install the outer bearing race with a tool (KV401021S0 special tool number) until it seats in the hub flush. NOTE: Place a large glob of grease into the palm of one hand and push the bearing through it with a sliding motion. The grease must be forced through the side of the bearing and in between each roller. Continue until the grease begins to ooze out the other side through the gaps between the rollers. The bearing must be completely packed with grease.
  9. Pack each wheel bearing with high temperature wheel bearing grease. Pack hub and hub cap with the recommended wheel bearing grease up to shaded portions. Refer to the illustration.
  10. Install the inner bearing and grease seal in the proper position in the hub.
  11. Install the wheel hub with disc brake rotor to the spindle.
  12. Install the outer wheel bearing, lock washer, wheel bearing lock nut, adjusting cap, cotter pin (always use a new cotter pin and O-ring for installation after adjustment), spread cotter pin then install the O-ring and dust cap.
  13. Install the brake caliper assemblies and bleed brakes if necessary. Install the front wheels.
