SOURCE: 96 ford contour, temp gauge not working

first and foremost check the fuse box. there is a fuse for guages. The temp sensor is somewhere on the manifold and it will have a hard wire with probably a spring around it for protections that runs from the engine to the instrument cluster. You can remove the temp sensor and use a heat gun or propain heat and see if you get any kind of response. I suspect if all your other gauges are working the fuse is good. Most temp sensors do not use power only for lighting of the gauge, It just sends a resistance change to the water temp bulb and it moves the gauge. Is it a seperate gauge or in your insturment cluster? could be simple as a crushed line or the sensor went bad. It is normally self contained. I suspect it is a gauge and not a dummy light? if you can not get the one working in the instrument cluster I suggest going to and autoparts store and replace it which is very easy to do. You can remove the old sensor from the block and reinstall the new on in its place and run the cable back through where the first one was and mount the gauge in another area, It is very important to know the water temp since most computers use this info for setting the correct fuel to air mixture in a closed loop system. That is a diffrent sensor but you need to know the temp yourself to keep from blowing a head gasket or worse which can cause you lots of money to repair, I prefer to mount my own gauge seperate from the cluster, best of luck

My gas gage stays on full what could the problem be?

Does the gauge go to zero when you turn the ignition off? If not, then the gauge itself is bad. If it does, then the sending unit is probably bad. The sending unit is inside the gas tank, on the fuel pump mount. Try lifting the rear seat and open the cover plate there to expose the connector for the fuel gauge and pump. Do not disconnect the two hoses! Disconnect it, then turn the ignition key on. If the gauge stays at zero, the sending unit is bad. If it goes up to full, then there is a wiring problem. If you're not familiar with working with this sort of thing, I strongly recommend you take it to a qualified shop.

2006 Ford Taurus, gas gauge not working and check engine light on..help please

Check the fues panel. cig lighter fuse also supplys power to the OBD diagnostic connector. Check the fuses to make sure the guages fuse is not blown too. you will need your owner manual since ford doesn't put the descriptions in their fuse panel cover

1999 Ford Taurus, There are a couple things not working which may influence both, first the RPM Gauge is not working and either is the Cruise Control. I just replaced the Vehicle Speed Sensor and that...

1. Have you looked at your owners manual for location of the cruise control fuses? 2. Same for the tachometer? 3. Do you live in a wet area with alot of rain? Next chance you have, get some electric cleanout spray from NAPA spray into all cruise control connections and tach connections. 4. Check the recalls from Ford there have been issues with 99 cruise econtrol systems.

Lights out on steering wheel instruments of 200 Taurus

It sounds like you have some bulbs burned out in the cluster and cruise switches. I don't think you can just replace the bulbs in the switch. You can replace bulbs in the instrument cluster.
