Oil on spark plug ceramic insulation ( internal as to from under the wire cover) indicates oil coming past the rings ---worn-- or from the valve guides past the valve stems. Allow the engine for say the time it takes for a set of trafficlights to change and then give it a rev as if you are moving off. If you see a cloud of blue smoke it is either the valve guide worn out or the valve stem seals have gone hard and letting oil run down the stems . A compentenant mechanic should be able to replace the seals with out removing the head but if is rings ( noticeable when the engine is under load) then I would sau you are in for an engine replacement or rebuild. In the shot term You can get a hotter plug which will burn the oil from the plug. A hotter plug has a longer cernamic insulator thereby retainning the heat around the plug to burn off the oil See the auto spares to get what I mean

What is cost to replace valve cover gasket on 2002 dodge neon?

To replace the valve cover gasket shouldn't be that expensive. Although those cars are known for blown head gaskets, so I would have them look carefully at the back of the engine for an oil leak. If it is leaking oil out of the head, it is only a matter of time before the head gasket will be pushing anti-freeze. Please rate my answer so I get points for it.

Miss fire but no lights on changed the plugs and fuel filter also changed dist cap also checked for a good spark

A lean fuel mixture will not yield poor fuel economy but a misfiring cylinder will. You have already replaced the coils and the plug leads to the cylinders in question so they should not be an issue.Do the codes still indicate a misfire on cyls. 2 & 3? If so have you looked at the plugs? Has the oil leak around the plugs been stopped? Are they oil fouled? Could the pooling oil around the plugs be shorting the spark discharge to ground?or Valve Cover gasket is leaking. That's why you see some motor oil in the sparkplug sleeve (tube). removed the spark plug and My suggestion is to remove the sparkplug in cylinder 2 & 3 or whichever ones that the scanner indicated as "misfiring". Take a look at the sparkplugs and see if there's any oil around it. If you see any traces of oil, that means your gasket is worned out and need to replace.Good Luck in getting your problem fixed. I own a 2005 Aveo and after 5yrs and 66,000 miles some are telling me my engine may be shot. It's got a bluish colored smoke coming from the tail pipe. I called around looking for a motor and the...

Bluish colored smoke is oil in the combustion chamber. I would recommend having a reputable garage/mechanic run a Compression Test and Leak Down Test on the engine to determine the condition of the Rings & Valves. If it tests out ok, it may be something as simple as Valve Seals needing replaced.
If the Compression/Leak Down tests don't look good, it may need rebuilt (just replacing rings alone would be a band-aid fix) or a valve job.

Diagnosed with ignition coil problem, replaced coil, spark plugs & wires, inspected pcm, vehicle running rough in gear, acceleration is rough, smooths out when it gets going. oil on one spark plug....

2006 3.9 has to be a T-Bird or LS

There are no spark plug wires

It has Coil-On-Plug individual coils

Plugs don't fail --they get changed at 60,000 miles
give or take, say every 3 years

The front (2) O2 Sensors get repalced at 100,000
miles. The ones closest to the engine

Clean MAF Sensor at least once a year

I have no idea how you inspect a pcm,if your
at home & have no scanner or PC Based Software

Egr Valves fail early on those & other fords

You could test, not look at,actually put an oscilloscope
on the TPS Sensor

Any oil on a spark plug requires a new valve cover gasket

If a coil was replaced based on a code alone, you may have
replaced a good one,not what needed to be replaced if any

Chevy Prizm or Toyota Corolla 2000 valve cover gasket problem? Right after oil change, engine check light came on & car started smoking & losing oil. I took out all 4 spark plugs: they were in very...

The valve cover gasket isn't hard to change. Oil on the plugs indicates a more serious problem. Smoke from the exhaust would be from rings, rich mixture, worn valve guides. It may be that the engine is overfull (that would show on the stick). Oil loss from a leaking gasket would smoke under the hood and leave oil on the engine and the ground.

I hv a Honda accord 94. It was running great but yesterday it start creating problem. Wen I try to push gas pedal it start missing n rpm needle goes upto 5000. I thought it could be coz of spark plugs so...

Hi,
Looks like some engine oil goes into the cylinder and contaminate your spark plug, thus making your plugs miss.
Look where that oil damp spark plug located at cylinder number, in that cylinder the valve seal is to be replace immediately. Valve seal is located on top of the engine that seals the intake/exhaust valve and valve guide, from oil going in the cylinder.
You could ask your mechanic to do the job, it is a bit hard to replace it. the parts needed coat just under $5.
Hope that helps you out!
Thanks for using Fixya!
