Question about Mazda Tribute

I have a 2004 mazda tribute. Can the catalytic converter be cleaned out?

I have someone telling me that my problem is the converters but since there is 3 of them I cannot afford to replace them at this time. I had a friend tell me that the converters can be cleaned out. Is this true.

The converters have inside them a honeycomb filling that has holes less tha 1/16 '' and many of them. Clean out is not possible. They are prone to cracking and internal disintergration which can block up the exhaust system. They run very hot and if you go through water the temp change is mainly what cracks the insides. It is possible to detect which unit is faulty by hitting the unit with the heel of your hand and listening for rattles

You probably have way too much unburned fuel in your exhaust system (how's your mileage?) or possibly a failed oxygen sensor that is giving false information to the computer.

SOURCE: is it true that ford escape's catalytic converter

no a dealer is not the only place that replaces these; you can do it yourself and there should be 2 of them. most of them are replaced with aftermarket ones. go to a muffler shop and they will replace them for you and you can check at an Autozone or Napa for the catalytic converters

SOURCE: Catalytic converter shot

3 front coils? Ignition coils? If the engine had a miss for a long time the excess fuel can ruin a catalytic converter.

SOURCE: Replace muffler, not the catalytic converter which started to rattle. Stop running, will crank but will not start. can it be the catalytic converter.

if the converter is rattlin then it needs to be replaced because the element inside is broken. if the jeep still does not run try removing the catalytic converter to see if the restriction is too much. should start if the converter is restricted. if it doesnt maybe its whatever caused the converter to go bad in the first place

Code 136 is for a problem with the O2 sensor bank one sensor two.
That is the sensor after the catalytic converter.
The sensor or the wiring would need to be checked.

Check engine light

The check engine light is telling the driver the computer has found a problem with the engine that can damage the catalytic converter or make the truck burn more fuel.
Once you retrieve the trouble codes and fix the problem, the codes are erased and the light should stay off.

2004 mazda tribute idles high and manifold glows red hot after only 20 minutes after running

When you say manifold, I assume you mean the exhaust manifold. If its the one you can see (there is an exhaust manifold on the back of the engine also for the rear 3 cylinders) its a clogged or fried catalytic converter. There are a couple of catalytic converter cleaners on the market you can try, but most likely it will need to be replaced. Was there another problem recently i.e. bad coil pack etc?

Where are 'Bank one' 'Sensor one' located on the 2002 Mazda Tribute ES

if it's a four cylinder motor it only has one bank of cylinders, sensor one is going to be the one before the catalytic converter, should be visible under the hood. if it is a V6 then bank one is going to be the one closest to the very front of the vehicle, again sensor one is going to be the one BEFORE the catalytic converter.

2002 mazda tribute how many converters?

Ford Escape and Mazda Tribute same engine same problem check out Catalytic Converter problems on both in the long run will have to replace all 3 of the converters may blow a hole in the EGR valve too. Go for after market parts will save you money and not going thru a dealership will help but expect to pay close tto $1,800 mostly due to labor to replace these parts. If you have a check engine light try going to Auto parts store and use their computer to check out code. Not getting this fixed will leave you stranded when it goes. Vehicle will suddenly bogg down and trust me when your doing 60 mph on the hwy. and suddenly this happens to you not a good feeling. Hope this helps.

Glass seperating from convertible top. Top is like brand new and I can't afford a whole new top. Any suggestions? From everything I've read on the web it looks like this car has had this problem alot. ...

Your glass was originally heat sealed to the top material. If the delamination area is small, you may be able to refasten it with urethane adhesive. The same stuff that glass shops use to glue windows to metal. If the delamination has progressed farther than 4-6 inches, you need a new top.
Don't bother with a glass shop, they don't do convertibles. Talk to a convertible top or auto upholstery shop.
