Question about 2000 Saturn SL

1 Answer

My son recently bought a 2000 Saturn SL-2. He was driving it on the highway and it started vibrating pretty bad. I had him take it to an AutoZone to have them get some diagnostics on the engine and they said that there was no combustion on #4. My first thought was to replace the plugs and plug wires to see if that corrects the problem but when I opened the hood I found everything buried under the fuel injection -- should I be looking somewhere else first?

2000 saturn radio is locked. how do i unlock

1.) To begin, if your radio is displays LOC, then proceed to step 2. If your radio says INOP, then turn your ignition to the RUN position, and turn the radio ON. You must leave it like this for a minimum of 1 hour (not 59 minutes) to clear the INOP message. I would wait 1 1/2 hours just in case doing it too early causes the timer to start over.

2.) Turn your ignition to RUN (if not already), and your radio to OFF. Press and hold preset buttons 2 and 3 for around 5-10 seconds to obtain a scrambled version of your radio's original factory set code.

3.) Call a GM dealer with this code. Tell them you are with a local shop i.e. I am Joe with Good Year Highway Tire; Then tell them: We have a 2000 Saturn SL we just changed a battery in and the radio is now locked. My mechanic pulled the pre-code. Could you give me the code? This usally works at no charge.

Once you have the code write it down. Keep atleast 2 copies. Hope this helps!

I have a 1993 Saturn SL that the service engine soon light comes on after driving at highway speed for 3 or 4 minutes. It goes out after not maintaining hiway speed. When I go to check for codes the...

It seems like it almost has to be one of two things. Either it's getting a little hotter than it thinks it should or it thinks it's not getting the right air fuel mix at those speeds. If, after slowing from hwy. speeds, the light lingers for a little, then goes out, I'd investigate option 1. If it goes out pretty much as soon as you let off the gas. Option 2. If you're pursuing the heat issue, flush the radiator thoroughly. Make sure the fan is working right.
Engine lights can be finicky. If the car runs fine and doesn't seem to be having any problems other than the light, it might be nothing important.

Just bought a 2000 saturn sl class. runs rough at start-up, runs great when warmed up. changed fuel pump and filter, plugs and wires. no difference. guessing throttle control (choke)

The problem here is the ECTS. Engine Coolant Temp. Sensor. It cost around $12 dollars and takes maybe 5 mins to fix with a 13mm socket. Saturn SL series built before november 2001 have a plastic ECTS. When you buy the new one make sure it has the brass tip as some parts stores still carry the cheap plastic one

My Saturn 2000 SL will not start except when I press the accelerator while turning the key

most likely a bad coolant temp sensor and harness ,common issue,,,if gives the car too much gas if it misreads and then when u put foot to floor gives it right amount or air to start,,,get a saturn sensor and put it in,if the harness is contaminated replace it too, dont get cheap auto zone **** they dont work get the saturn one, cost more but works, they redesigned them the aftermarket ones are plastic junk

Engine vibrates

No, you might have to pull some of the intake, as thes cars use a coil over plug configuration. Trace the wire to where it goes. You can do this, take your time and take picture with digital camera before if you have never done this. Once you pull the plug, If it is brown rusty color you have a leaking head gasket. Be sure to test all cylinders with a compression tester befor putting things back together.
