Brake switch bad, system needs bled, rear brake circuit probably has air in fluid, fluid is no doubt contaminated, nobody addresses this maintainance problem, bleed entire brake system, replace all fluid w/ new. if fluid in the master cylinder is black, seals are bad, some brake systems have a pump as part of master cylinder, these pumps run off fuses , 25amp, etc., check what system you have. is your fluid level correct ? the switch I refer to is @ proportioning valve below master cylinder @ frame, see abs brakes use this valve to prevent skidding, rear brakes must come on first, before front brakes. if valve is not in balance a hard brake pedal occurs, as with low fluid levels. does your brake light come on ? @ dash. have a brake shop bleed your system, if there's a problem they'll find it for you, let them do it, don't wast your time.

Hear air when i push down the brake pedal

If the pedal gets hard then you either have a vacuum leak from the hose coming off of the brake booster going to the intake manifold or the brake booster itself is faulty.

2001ford escape replaced rotors pads calipers lubed guide pins brake pedal gets hard after about 3 miles.brakes will also pulsate before they get hard.

Looks like you might have a restricted brake hose, holding pressure in a caliper,a little like riding the brake. After the pedal gets hard, see which wheel is getting hottest, crack that bleeder and see if the wheel will then turn freely. If it does, the flex hose or some other part of the hydraulic system is holding pressure.

Brake booster appears not to be working properly. brakes work ok for 1 or 2 apps then pedal gets hard. cannot hear any vacume leaks. the car does have a vacume switch in the booster

the booster is the problem, or a hole or leak in vacuum line to booster check the check valve also ! from manifold. heres the symtoms of a bad brake booster. primary symtom is a hard pedal on application, to test booster. pump brakes several times with engine off. to deplete stored vacuum. turn on engine with pushing slightly on brake pedal. you should feel the pedal fade away abit and then become firm. but not hard. if you feel nothing at pedal when engine starts, brake booster is not working! check the vacuum lines first!!

Brake pedal gets hard when braking, no normal braking

If there is a malfunction in the brake servo assist system, and your assistance is reduced, the brake pedal will become hard and you will need much more pressure on the brake pedal to stop the car.

It is possible that there is a vacuum leak in the brake servo assist system and you are only getting 50% or less assistance when you are applying the brakes.

You need to have the vehicle checked out without delay because if you lose brake assistance entirely it will be very difficult to stop the car.

Brakes pedal gets hard sometimes while driving and then it would come back soft and nice. This is on a nissan sunny 2005 car. Kindly explain. Thank you

this problem is caused by a vacuum leak inside the power brake vacuum booster unit (rubber diaphram), here is a photo of that part which is under the hood, the brake master cylinder is mounted to it.

Check your vac lines, also a hard brake pedal can be a bad brake booster.

Hard pedal low stopping power

First you need to check the brakes lines and the brake pads must be replaced on your car they may be worn out........ Get it checked from the local service center........
