How do you know if a coil is bad?

what engine, a 4 or 6, will make a diference; any way if it a 6 cyl just switch coils from another cyl and see if code chances if not your problem may be an injector. On other hand if is a four you have a distribuitor take your cap out and inspect coil for cracks or carbon tracks same thing with distribuitor cap is allways a good practice to relace cap, rotor and wires at same time. resistance on distribuitor coil primary 0.36 to 0.64 ohms secondary 9.0 to 18.0 ohms if a coil pack 0.64 ohms to 1.23 primary and secondary 9.3 to 18.8 good luck

My car died on me and it doesnt start it doesnt have spark

is this a 2.5lts engine? you dont tell but have few of this problems my self and ended on a 190dls distribuitor, and it is not easy to replace if you dont have god mechanicll skills found some one.
One other place to look is your timing belt? if snaps your distribuitor also wont turn.

Occasionallytruck stuttered finally died does not start

try taking off the distribuitor cap and inspect the rotor for black dust .. if black dust is present replace the rotor it might be going to ground causing the spark to not go anywheres... good luck let me know how it went.
