Question about 2004 Dodge Intrepid
Wife drove into garage yesterday. Went to go somewhere today and the car starts and steering wheel unlocks but I can't move the column gear selector out of park temp is 5 degrees here.
Usually a problem with the brake switch or the solenoid that locks the shifter in park.
You may be able to unlock the key switch without turning the switch on, then take the shifter out of park.

SOURCE: steering wheel column
there is a couple of rods on the left side of the colum.
take the panel of, put the key on the ignition. switch on and see wich rod is moving and thats the one that goes to a box type switch.
that switch is the problem, either is loose or faulty, if it wiggles try to tighten it up, if is tight then the switch is faulty and you will have to replace it, you can find it at any parts store

Not sure that this is the solution, but I found a work around on my Durango. If you take off the cover on the shifter there is a lever (button) that you can dislodge and the vehicle will release out of park. After I did this a couple of times, I haven't had the issue happen again.

water intrusion in the junction block is kina what it sounds like to me.
they were doing a recall on this vehicle.

You have a shift cable. This cable may be getting a
little worn. One way to check it is, disconnect the
cable at the transmission and see if it is still stiff.
Look under the hood, just to the right of the brake
booster. You will see 2 cables that come through
the firewall, one is the throttle cable, it will go to the
right towards the center of the engine. The other is
the shift cable, it will go down to the transmission
linkage. Disconnect the cable there and see if it
shifts any easier. If not, replace the cable.
Hope this helps. Good luck.
