2004 saturn ion starting problems

When it is cold outside the car starter doesnt want to engage. if it does its about a half a turn and then nothing and it wont do anything for about 20 mins. when it doesnt start and i leave the key on accessories it says service vehicle but ive had a computer hooked up and it doesnt give me any codes. when it does finally decide to roll over all the way it feels like its not getting any gas. im not sure if water got in somewhere and froze or if there is a short in a wire. any information would be greatly appreciated

The cranking problem could be a weak battery, bad connection between the battery and the starter, or a weak starter. Sometimes the brushes in a starter stick and don't make contact.
The check engine light should come on when the key switch is on and then go off once the engine starts.

SOURCE: starting problem with 1998 Saturn SW2

Ok I know that Coolant Temp Sensors are very very Common to Saturns, Only buy the Parts at saturn they are Calibrated Parts. Aftermarket do not work well.
You could have a work starter bendix Drive or a worn Flywheel that is causing the crackling sound you hear, To be totally honest I need to hear the sound to tell you for sure. If this information is good please Give me a Fixya! Rating and if there is anything more I can do for you please contact me .

Listen under the hood next to fuse box for a cliking sound when ignition is turned. If you do not hear this click you many need a starter relay.

SOURCE: 98 saturn sl1 won't start

If the problem occurs after the car has been driven long enough to reach normal operating temperature, the problem is the starter. If the 'no crank' occurs cold, retest the battery.

SOURCE: 98 saturn sl1 won't start

I have a 98 Saturn SL1 from time to time it would not start, it wouldn't even try. I knew the battery was good. It turned out to be the cranshaft position sensor.

2004 ion won't start. Lights work. When I turn key don't get series of clicks, get one snap.

That symptom usually means the solenoid on the starter is bad and no longer is completing the circuit to engage the starter. A new starter will likely solve that issue. A series of rapid clicks would indicate a week battery. You can try repeatedly turning the key to the start position rapidly, sometimes the starter wil start working. You can also try tapping the starter while somebody holds the key in the start position, if the starter engages place it.

2004 Saturn Ion. Starting issue. Replaced battery and ignition switch. Still have same problem. Have not been able to start the car since 02/05/10. What could be the problem?

if not rolling over you need a new starter which is a resonable price.if rolling over you could need plugs or wires or coil.if it is tryin to start it is either gas or electric problem.if not running at all it is definetly a new starter will have you up and running.i hope this is some help to you.
