Question about Cars & Trucks

We just got our 2000 Windstar LX back from having new torque converter put on. After driving it home and out to eat we noticed a lot of fluid under the front of the van. Was it not connected properly?

How many quarts of transmission fluid do I put in my 1998 Ford Windstar 3. O

1995-1998 - 12.25 qts.
NOTE: After a fluid / filter change with just the pan off - it would take only 4.5 qts. to fill it back up. (The rest remains in the transmission lines, gears, torque converter etc).

My 2000 ford windstar will not move when put in drive or reverse

run the fault codes and look for a torque converter solenoid/servo fault. Check for a TCM problem.

My 2000 ford windstar was working fine, then I stopped to put gas and when I tried to switch from park to drive it did not go in gear. no reverse, no drive, what would it be??

Hi hope I can help.
This is a very common way that a torque converter fails.
The transmission will need to be removed and a new torque converter installed.
Hope this helps

It quit accelerating. all the fluids are fine. it wont go in reverse, neutral, or drive. i give it alot of power and it won't move. could it be the linkage? i do not think my transmission is out

This is common problem between 99 and 03, the pump drive splines in the torque converter are stripped. You will probaly notice the transmission fluid is higher on the dip stick than it should be.This is because the torque converter which shares fluid and pressure from the transmission cannot stay primed because of no pump flow. You can confirm this by removing a cooler line at the transmission and cranking the car,If fluid shoots out the pump is working if not then you are gonna need a torque converter and or pump drive shaft. The transmission will need to be removed in order to do this and if the pump driveshaft is bad you will need to disassemble transmission somewhat to install a new one.Good luck.

Shifting very slow

Hi and welcome to FixYa!

If the shifting is slow then the problem will surely be on the transmission fluid. If the transmission fluid is burnt the transmission tends to shift slower than expected. If the fluid is new and problem still persists, you may have a faulty torque converter. The torque converter controls the shifting of the car. Once the torque converter is replaced, a smooth drive and shifting will be noticeable.

Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa! Have a good one!

I have a 1998 Ford Windstar 3.8 w/the AX4S-no forward gears

the transmission has been overheating. the fluid expands and comes out of the vent tube on top of trans. thats why it dont leak all the time. check for kinked cooler hoses or a plugged cooler inside radiator.

Driving a 2003 Ford windstar. Went to pass and

Very common on this make and model trans, pump drive splines inside torque converter strip out and pump is not turning, Most times there is no damage to pump shaft. Remove trans and remove torque converter, inspect the splines at the very bottom of the hub hole. If stripped out inspected pump shaft splines which are the smaller center splines coming out of trans, if ok replace torque converter and re-install trans, change out fluid, clean any metal from magnet and replace filter, fill with fluid and verify proper operation.

Diagram for transmission for windstar

there is a vent tube repair kit that u get from ford- they have been having problems with venting. the oil is most likely comming out of your dipstick tube- will only do it when the trans. is overheated and can't vent like it should.
