05 avalanche 1500 slips out of od while at hwy speeds let off throttle sometimes it goes back in

it could be a mess to know what is the problem
to know take down the shifter to D3 if RPM go up then you know it was in fourth gear . it is more likely the torque converter solenoid or the torque converter clutch itself
hope it helps

Diagnostic code P1782

P1782 DODGE - 2/4-OD Pressure Switch Circuit Possible causes of this code are: - Low transmission fluid level (check level hot transmission only)
- Dirty transmission fluid (has transmission been serivced at least every 60,000 miles, fluid and new filter?)
- Faulty 2/4-OD Pressure Switch
- 2/4-OD Pressure switch poor electrical connection
- 2/4-OD Pressure switch circuit is open or shorted
P1782 DODGE Description The pressure 2/4-OD Pressure Switch is part of the pressure switch of the transmission. The pressure switch are located in the solenoid assembly. The switch provide input information to the Transmission Control Module (TCM). The switch will inform to the TCM is pressure exist in a specified hydraulic circuit. the TCM uses this information to verified that the solenoids are working or not.

2003 Chevy Tahoe, No First or Fourth Gears, not shifting, which trans solenoid(s) do I need to replace?

No 1st or 4th available; trans shifts 2nd to 3rd by itself in D or OD and locks the converter : ShiftA solenoid failed. Easy fix in the pan. Or a wiring problem from PCM to trans.. or PCM.

Transmission overdrive failure

Good chance there is a problem with the wiring to the OD solenoid or the OD solenoid itself. The solenoid is located at the top of the tranny, on driver side. Unplug the solenoid and put + 12-volt to it, if you hear it click in and out give it a test drive with your rigged wiring, if she goes in to OD then you know the tranny / solenoid are good but problem with OD relay, switch or heat sensor. Push come to shove you can just rewire it to a new switch and be done with it (that's what I ended up doing)

Please let me know if this assisted you.

Thanks,
Tom

What does the overdrive on off switch do? If I don't have it on my 1989 mitsubishi galant winds out in third and wont go to fourth

The overdrive switch allows you to manually keep the transmission from going in to OD. This can be usefull when driving up steep grades and the transmission has to continually down shift for better engine torgue. Also very useful when towing a trailer to keep the engine RPMs up for better towing ability. The transmissions on the cars also use a temperature switch, here in WI the car (with Mitsubishis) will not shift in to OD until the engine meets a given temp. If your temp switch has failed the tranny cannot go in to OD, there should be a OD relay too which should be inspected and lastly the OD solenoid which engages the OD, if it failed no go. Also be certain to keep your tranny oil in top form with the Mitsubishi's, their trans-axels are quite sentitive to failing tranny fluid (poor viscocity) if the fluid is old/dirty good practice to go ahead and replace it with filter.

I hope this may have assited you,
Tom

the OD shift solenoid is malfunctioning or has failed. changing this will bring back the OD. the solenoid is located in the bottom of the transmission pan.

You have an overdrive relay issue. The tansmission is really a four-speed box, but the OD selector either locks our fourth gear or allows the car to shift normally into fourth. I use the OD on my volvo all the time, because the revs drop in half when the OD is activated, The relay is located behind the glove box, toward the center console. $10 buck on Ebay and your transmission should shift correctly again. I would try that BEFORE more expensive fixes, like OD solenoid $200 or transmission control module. Just for kicks a picked up a spare ECU on Ebay for $10 because these get costly if and when they go. Easy fix, though, a couple of plugs.
