5 speed manual transmission sluggish and jerking during accellera

Hi, just today our 2001 Toyota Corolla S that has a 5 speed manual transmission started getting sluggish and jerking during accelleration. We were on our way to work this morning and stopped for coffee, out of the car for 5 minutes. Hop back in the car and it won't start, we keep trying and it finally does after about 3 to 4 minutes. This is when the sluggish and jerking symptions started during accelleration. The car worked fine the rest of the day accept for being a little sluggish. We stop on our way home to pick up our kids and we are out of the car for 10 to 15 minutes... get back in and nothing. Tried to jump it, nothing. I had noticed that the connections to the battery were corroded a couple of days earlier when changing out the headlight. We got the car to start after cleaning of the terminals but the car was still sluggish when accellerating and the car is still jearking. What could be causing this problem? Thank you!

Wqithout looking at it directly , could be neglect to the car it self, clean them batt, cables not just the outside of them take them off the battery . clean the right , ck the wires make sure thay are also not corroided , as for the running like **** , sounds lik maybe a vacuum line came off , could be bad sparlk plugs wires etc, if it just happened in a spur of the moment thing , I would ck those vacuum hoses , something like tha will make it run like you are saying , tune it up , plugs and wires etc, clean it so you can see it .listen for any strange noise and do be carful

Hi I'm female and have a toyota tazz 1999 model. The car started jerking as I drive, feels sluggish as well. Checked fuel filter but seems clean, no smoke, oil and water is fine(can it still be a gasket?)...

jerking can be from many things
1: brakes locked up. or bad.
2: engine jerks
3: transmission jerks.

sluggish, same,
find a shop any auto repair shop to tell you which of the 3 it is.
then post for help.

keep in mind, not one person here can drive your car. and see that.

Speedometer not working

There were two engine types in the year 2001. Toyota corolla 3ZZ-FE and 4A-FE. Speed meter problem may be due to the following reasons:
- Speed meter connector disconnected/corroded at the transmission.
- Wiring harness.
- Vehicle speed sensor.
- Combination meter.
- ECU

96 corolla hesitates and jerks

The jerking and shuddering at 45-50 mph seems like it could be a transmission/torque converter problem. Check your transmission fluid. Make sure it is at the right level, and that it is not dark or burnt. It should be a bright red or pink.

Automatic Transmission problem

You didnt specify which transmission your car has,the 3 speed, model A131L,or the 4 speed A245E.Both transmissions basically have the same elements applied internally when acquiring Reverse gear.Forward clutch off,Direct clutch and Low Reverse clutch applied. The major difference between the two available transmissions for your car is,the 3 speed trans is totally hydraulic,no electronic controls, while the 4 speed trans is totally electronic control.Check the fluid level first, regardless of trans model. If your car has the 3 speed trans,it is likely an internal trans problem.Same thing for the 4 speed model, with the exception that the problem could be the electronic solenoids malfunctioning. The solenoids should be deemed defective or good, before a determination is made.
