Car dies while driving

I have a 2002 Nissan Sentra with about 66,000+ miles on it. About a week ago, my car suddenly died while I was driving. I pulled off the road, turned off my car, and started it right back up again. Then yesterday, my car died again while I was driving. Again, I turned it off and started it right back up so I continued driving. When I later stopped and put my car in park, my car kept revving up on its own until I finally turned it off. It started back up just fine. Any ideas??? My car also died today three times while I was driving. But it wouldn't really die as in lose complete power. The lights would flash and the car would ding like it does when something is wrong. Then I would turn off the car and it would start up again perfectly, after the third time I headed home to be on the safe side and drove around for about 15-20 mins (longer than I was driving when it cut out the 3 times) and nothing happened, even when up big hard to drive hills and gunned it a little so it would use up more power and nothing happened... I guess I'm gonna take it to a mechanic tomorrow to see what the deal is. Just sucks because I'm moving out of state next week.

Thank's a lot for your help, this morning I tried the car and it started normally. But just as a precaution I cleaned the terminals just in case and on the way to the store it cut out on me again, I risked it cutting out again and drove it to a mechanic, Meineke, I needed a new battery. I was hoping that wasn't the problem but yea I got one and the total came up to about $130 (taxes included) =/. I could have bought a battery myself and had a friend put it in but I just wanted to be done with all my battery problems. At least I know I saved by telling them to give me a cheaper battery they were going to charge me about 170 total (battery and service), probably more with tax.

First off, check your battery terminals and posts for corrosion or any other cause of a poor connection.  If your connection to the battery is cutting out/back on rapidly it would cause exactly those symptoms.  also inspect the battery cables end to end for poor connections corrosion or breaks/tears in the insulating coating.  if that yields no answers it is probably a sensor for the ecu or the fuel delivery system.  good luck!

What could be causing my 02 Nissan Sentra to restrict revs then stall at highway speed?

Your first order of business is to check the oil level in the crankcase, and bring it up to full level. You can probably find a replacement dip stick, or go to a junkyard and get one. Without sufficient oil in the engine, The will seize. or prematurely die.
Is your check oil light coming on? Have the car scanned for trouble codes. Auto Zone and Advance Auto will a scan. Then you will be able to get info on the codes and what they identify. Just look the codes up on an internet search.

The engine light in my car came on about 2 and a half weeks ago. I brought it to the mechanic for a diagnostic test and they said that my catalytic converter needs to be replaced. My engine has been...

Your car does in fact need a new catalytic converter. And it should also not burn a drop of oil. It can burn oil as it seeps past leaking intake valves and piston rings.

I highly recommend you do not even start the engine again until the exhaust and intake valves have been inspected and replaced as needed, it has a new catalytic converter and a complete tune up.

Electrical short

Your problem is pointing to the alternator. Since you say the alternator is only a year old, the I would check the tension on the belt (deflection should be about 1/2 an inch), and the belt itself. Your problem most likely lies in either the belt, belt tensioner (if applicable), or alternator.

My 05 Sentra died twice on me and is running very sluggish...

it could be that your fuel pump could be weak. or that it's in the electrical circuit of your fuel system. what that means is that the sensors that help read the performance of your fuel system could be malfunctioning. this would involve the O2(oxygen) the TPS(throttle position sensor. or it could be the fuel pressure regulater. you could probably go to a small garage and have scan done cheaper than if you take it to a dealership.hope this helps please rate this ......thanks and good luck

Car dies while driving

I think that your crank angle sensor failed. Is the check engine light on?? if so, scan it and get code. If the code is P0335, than you need new crank angle sensor. Nissan has been having some problems with those even on other Nissan products. (Altima, Pathfinder and so on) Good luck.
