My boyfriends Toyota Tundra is leaking brake fluid. Sometimes a horrible white smoke billows out of the exhaust pipe just after starting up the truck. It quits after a few minutes. Where do you think the...

The white smoke has nothing to do with the brake fluid loss. Look around the brake master cylinder, brake lines and joiners and brakes for signs of moisture. They should all be clean and dry any build up of dirt could be a hydraulic leak. The white smoke is more likely from warn valve guides.

A leak of some fluid, probably oil, dripping onto the exhaust. This smells terrible, and it only needs a drop or two.

It's possible you overfilled the power steering reservoir or perhaps spilled some that leaked down on the exhaust manifold. That would cause a lot of smoke until it burned off.

It could possibly be you gas cap thats loose or defective. If it isnt the gas cap, something else is letting out the gas tank pressure. A line could be busted or loose, the vent solenoid could be stuck open or the vapor canister could be leaking. The system should be smoked or pressure tested to find the leak. There is an EVAP service port marked with a green tag near the throttle body. A shop connects a smoke machine or pressure tester to that port while a technician searches or listens for signs of leakage. There really isn't one part you can change to make the light go away. You are only getting the code when the monitor runs, which explains the delay between reseting and the MIL setting.

Blowing white smoke when reved up.... boggs a little when accelerating, idles a little rough also.. its a 93 civic dx with a 1.5l

White smoke is usually caused by a cracked head gasket or cracked head, but some times it is caused by your brake booster sucking brake fluid into the intake through the vacuum hose. If your brakes are constantly going soft, or your brake reservoir constantly needs refilling then that will be your problem. Replacement will include both the brake booster and the master cylinder.

If the cause is a leaking head, you can fix it with sodium silicate (liquid Glass) which can be purchased in most pharmacies. You will need to remove your thermostat to keep it from sticking shut before doing this. Replace it after the smoke is gone.

Remember that the sodium silicate trick is more of a bandaid than a permanent fix. Also remember that sodium silicate is not a good fix for steel heads, and since yours is aluminum it should work.

BUT since your problem only occurs as you accelerate, I would suspect the brake booster and master cylinder.
