Question about 1995 Nissan Pickup

1 Answer

Engine ticking I just bought a '95 4x4 4 cylinder pickup. after changing the oil it ticked as if the oil hadn't gotten to the engine yet but this went away after it warmed up. It did this two or three other times momentarily then went away. A week later I checked the oil when filling up and added a little. Then all of a sudden the ticking went out of control. I replaced the third cylender rocker arm/lifter which wouldnt compress but it is still ticking. I put some cr2 cleaner in it and it went away the secound day but later returned and I only have 103k miles and runs great besides this. Does anyone happen to know what might be going on and what I should do. I love this little truck and want it to last at least another 100 thousand. Thanks, VTIceFisher0616

No it didn't. After replacing the rocker arm and adding the cr2 cleaner I drove it about 40 miles and it continued to tick. I will add that I live in Vermont and it has been extremely cold but I don't think that really would make a differance. The next morning I drove it home about 60+ miles and half way home I noticed it had stopped ticking but by the time I got home it had started again. Now it is pretty constant I dont think it has stopped again. Is there a chance its just a sticky spring or something simple?

Hey Thanks for the advice I am going to check into that as soon as the temperature gets above zero!!! Should I stop driving the truck at this point? I don't want to cause permanent damage.

    Thanks again,

You didn't mention anything about the push rod.If you haven't already done so, take the push rod out and look thru the hole and see if there is any build up of sludge, and run a piece of wire down thru it, or replace it.Might be warn just enough to cause this, or warn cam lobe.Hope this helps, you have done everything else.

This is a 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee with 128000 miles. Engine ticks at about 2300 rpm when warm. Heavier oil reduces tick but does not eliminate. Tick is much less noticable when engine is cold.

the oil pickup tube in the oil pan may be clogging up. as the oil gets hot and thins out , there isn't enough volume coming through the oil pump to keep the enginr quiet. may want to try checking to oil pressure with a manual gauge. also might want to try an engine flush and chang the oil and filter after flushing the engine.MAKE sure if you flush the engine you follow the directions.

My 1995 nissan pickup is ticking and smoking from exhaust. Seems that oil is coming out of exhaust. 4cyl. 5-speed. 160k

if its burning oil then you could have a pcv valve problem(plugged) and changing it could fix it.the other things are bad rings, bad valve guides or valve could also be a cracked head or a bad head gasket leak by the oil drain passages and combustion chamber drawing in oil and burning.the ticking noise is either to thin of oil(dirty) by not changing it frequently low oil level or worn engine components that will need repair.

These engines are known for ticking fan clutches. If the ticking doesnt significantly increase with the engine revving, it may be the fan clutch. The clicking usually happens momentarily and dissipates, and increases only to a certain engine speed. If its an internal mechanical issue, ticking will increase simultaneously with the engine speed increase.

I have an '02 jeep wrangler. Straight 6, 4.0 L

if this vehicle has a high millage then you have worn bearing if the oil pressure go's to low then this would be the problem, if not then you should have your lifters replaced but check oil pressure if the noise comes back when the oil pressure drops then you need to over haul your engine. if this information has been useful please let use know good luck

Rapping/ticking sound in my 2001 Chevy tracker engine.

does it go tick tick tick tick and when it warms up it stops or goes quiet?
its your lifters not getting enough oil
when u change your oil it will stop till that oil gets worn out
you will have to replace the lifters or it can also be a slack oil pump not pumping oil around the engine like it should
