Question about 1997 BMW 328
Will not crank, fuel pump comes on, radio comes on, P,R, N, D on dash gauge flashing
It could be that your battery doesn't have enough voltage to turn over the engine (that requires a lot more current than running the other accessories). Check the voltage of the battery when you try to turn it over- it shouldn't go below 11 volts. If so, you likely need a new battery.

The oil filter is located underneath the vehicle next to the drain plugand accessed through a removable trim cover. If I remember correctly the drain plug is a 7mm allen. The oil filter has a drain plug in it to predrain before removing the filter cap. I do not recommend removing the plug because it strips out sometimes. Instead you need to use a socket and loosen the cap slowly. Your engine will take 8qts bmw syn 5w30 oil. I like the factory oil because it is proven extended life oil. When reinstalling the drain plug make sure to replace the crush washer. Also, make sure to replace the oring on the oil filter cap and lube before reinstalling.

The brake pads have sensors in them, when the pads get worn down to the sensor the light comes on letting you know its time to replace. this happens well before the pads are completely gone to reduce wear on the rotors. You should have the brakes replaced and the sensor also.

Hello , check the airbag contact sensor behing the grill assembley . They are located to the left and right of the grill almost to the headlight assemblies. Check the wires to them for corrosion and damage. Check the fuse as well. There should be an air bag testing wire or fuse in the fuse panel. DO NOT UNPLUG THE AIR BAG SENSORS OR HIT THEM !!

I had this same problem in my 02 745i... It's leaking from the internal coolant pipe... a $.05 rubber ring is going to cost you 3-5k easily.
