Question about 1996 Ford Explorer
Replaced starter with reman and still won t engage.
initial problem driving along and everything went wacky.
vehicle shut down .
Normally when the vehicule shuts down you have a problem with the power delivery which means the battery is low or discharged and the common problem is the alternator is not charging the battery.test your battery to see if you have at least 12 volts.if not charge your battery and then start the vehicule, then test the battery while car is running. if the alternator is charging the battery readings should be anywhere from 13.5-15volts.

I always check remans before they are installed; the Bendix may not be advancing the starter gear or you may have teeth missing from the flywheel.
I'd pull the starter and check the condition of the flyhweel.
