Question about 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee

1 Answer

Keyless entry I bought a 2000 JGC. It came without the Key Fobs, so I purchased some. However, I took the Jeep to the dealer to get a key cut, and to have the programing done, and the Jeep wouldn't take the programming. The dealer told me that a comoutere was bad, and that they would have to find out which one it was, and then the programming could be accomplished. Does this sound correct, and if so what computer would it be?

Yes they are related. Sounds like you need a new lock cylinder and possibly a new lock solenoid.

Keyless entry is not working but the dealer says the key fobs are sending? Should I install a new keyless entry system? Is there an easy solution?

Key fobs are tuned to the car, or should I say the car is tuned to accept the signal from the fob. The proceedure for this varies in different vehicles but is outlined in the owners hanbook. If you press the button and can hear a sound but no lock/unlock then there is a plastic gear drive in the mechanism has broken. It is easy and cheap to replace

Dealer gave me a shaved key works on starting ignition not on door lock the other three keys work on everything car doesn't have engine immoboliser removed the remote keyless entry fobs what is

Many times the dealer gives you a valet key made to give to the vet to park your car, these keys work even though the theft deterant system is active, but they will only work for short periods untill the theft system activates and imobolizes the vehicle. The system is reset when the valet brings your vehicle and you insert your normal (chiped) key.

My 2006 Toyota Tundra SR5 will not go into program mode to program my keyless entry pads

The security system on Toyota products are added by the distributor in your region. Many of those security systems will not allow more than 4 key fobs to be programmed into them. Have you owned this vehicle since it was new? Have you tried to program more that 4 key fobs into it? Have you tried programming it more than 2 times? If you security system has had more than 4 key fobs programmed in then the only way to get it to reprogram is the replace the security unit with a new one. I found this out the hard way and had to replace mine in my 2000 tundra.

Both fobs are "defective". I can't beleive that both of them became "defective" in the same week. Dealer will just sell me a new one for $117. Before I took it to the Dealer, I replaced the batteries in...

dealer has a key fob tester and i believe autozone has one also can check fobs for free. I would lean towards a problem with the rke module (remote keyless entry) have fobs checked if they "beep" on the tester then they are not problem

Seriously don't use the factory alarm system / keyless entry.

While my car was under warranty, the alarm malfunctioned and it wouldn't disarm. The solution was to have the car towed to a dealership and install a new BCM. This would have cost me over $1,000 - and it's not an isolated case.

Don't get a Hyundai key fob. Have an after market alarm / keyless entry installed. It will be cheaper & easier.
