I have a 2003 Ford Focus SE sedan. Just last night while driving for about a little over an hour I noticed what sounded like air rushing out in harmony with the engine turning over, and it is really loud,...

you may have a vacuum leak or a restriction in the exhaust system check around under the hood to see if you can narrow down the noise. a restriction in the exhaust causes the excess exhaust to push back threw and make a whooshing noise. hope this helps

Frozen emergency brake on the right rear wheel...what do I do to free it up?

the best way is to replace the rear cable assembly (on both sides) .. a temporary way to rescue the car .. is to first release the emergency brake .. then use a vice grip to grip the cable itself (not the housing) then tap the vice grips with a small hammer to drive the cable back into the housing that goes into the brake area .. you can use a little penetrating oil between the cable and housing (under rubber seal if any) .. but be careful not ot get any in the brake area .. once you have tapped the cable back into place, that will release the brake and permit driving until proper repairs can be made .. if someone puts the emergency brake on then you will have to start over .. if one side is frozen then the other is not far behind .. you can remove, clean and relube the cables but its usually easier to just replace them ..

Is there a retiner of some sort holding the brake drums on the rear of a 1996 rand am

lol, no retainer. Make sure the emergency brake is not on and if its been a while since they have been off you will need to tap them with a hammer and spin and tap, they are stubborn sometimes and take finese to come off if rusted. If you don' t feel comfortable doing I would take to a brake shop as you could damage the drum/hub if you hit it wrong

Vw t4 '03 tapping noise

Next time it's tapping at idle, press the brake pedal hard several times. If it stops tapping then gradually returns then it is a noisy vacuum pump.

It can go on like that or years (if you can put up with the tapping that is!) if you start to loose servo assistance while manovering then it's time to change the pump.

Hope that helps.

I cannot get the rear brake drums off. i have tried tapping with a hammer, but will not budge. I there anything holding the drum on other than pad pressure?

Is the emergency brake on? If it is then release the E-brake. If the e-brake is not on then contunue to tap around the drum it will brake loose after awhile. Sometimes when rear brake drums get to much brake dust, and the brakes get hot it kind of welds itself on. Tap the center a few times, after making sure the ebrake is not on
