I have ran into this problem with a few differant car makes most car companies install a chip in the key that sends a signal to the car if its not the gm key or if its an old key it it may not be sending the signal the car needs to turn off the security system

ok...... somthing else you may want to try is the key font (the remote for unlocking the door) if you have one. lock the car with it and then press the unlock as soon as the car is unlocked press it again. then try the key this in some cases will work.some gm factory security systems have a feture that sets the alarm if the car is rocked or bumped. the remote should reset it

Check your security light on the dash and see if it stays on or blinks with the key in on position. If so google how to reset the security.

1500 silveradosecurity light stays on. Sometime wont start

The security, antitheft, or passlock light is a visual indication that something in the car's antitheft system is failing. In most GM cars and trucks there is a hidden system that most people are unaware even exists. From the moment you put your key in the ignition, there begins a constant line of communication between your key's security chip or transponder, to the ignition's lock cylinder, and then to the car's TDM (Theft Deterrent Module). These 3 parts are in CONSTANT communication. If the key is in the ignition, then these parts are sending signals to each other. The security light illuminates when that signal gets broken, even just for a second. When the signal breaks, the car misinterperates this as an attempt at theft and goes into antitheft mode. The car thinks its being stolen or hotwired because it is not getting that signal from YOUR specific key. This is why the security light turns on and shuts down your vehicle.

The security light comes on but it wont even turn over

When the light is on, the security feature of immobilizing car-wont allow starting-is active. Pretty difficult and time-consuming to permanently disable the security system, but some have figured it out and published their research over the internet. If yours gets worse, if the light stays on more frequently, you may want it permanently removed. I think it was a ruse by GM and car makers to add cost, and cause more frequent repair visits, but that just me.
Google "disable vehicle security system" or some such, to see results.

Security light stays on car wont start

Looks like the TDM in the security system (VATS/PassKey) is having problems, it's typical on those cars. You can find a great write-up here: http://newrockies.ca , it was the only thing that saved my Park Avenue.

Wont start security light stays on

Body Control Module (BCM) on both counts. Find a shop in your town that specializes in electrical systems to test it. Beware, these can be intermittent problems, so make sure they keep it until the car does what you have observed. Expect to spend about $450 for the replacment. Dealers quoted me between $700 and $1,100 for the same repair. By the way, a new BCM will probably only last you about 12 months.
