Not sure where a cheap Rubber elbow is located on a passat. But do take off the coil covers. They are located under the engine cover. They are the 4 square caps. They come off with a allen wrench i believe 5mm. Then pull them off. Due this 1 at a time. Once off look down the hole with a flashlight.
And look at the rubber surrounding the coil. Their should be no moisture.spellcheck.gif If their is moisture try blowing it out with compressed air.

SOURCE: 1999 VW Passat 1.8 turbo Code #3 cylinder misfire.

Coils and plugs are not the only things that can cause misfires. Misfires can be caused by vacuum leaks, low compression, faulty fuel injectors, clogged EGR ports (on vehicles with individual ports for each cylinder), blown head gaskets, burned valves...you can spend a LOT of money on parts by just going in and replacing things without diagnosing WHY the cylinder is misfiring.

did it misfire before the tune up? if not more than likely the firing order is wrong the wires we're put back onto the plugs incorrectly check the order other things that can cause this are fuel or even a vac. leak

How to fix diagnostic code for 1999 vw passat po304 po305 po306

Hi. You have misfires on cylinders 4, 5 and 6. If there are no faults on cylinder 1, 2 and 3 then I would check the power to the left bank injectors. Also check spark plugs and ht leads. If there are running issues then this should be an easy fix. If the faults are very intermitant then it can be a bit tricky to isolate.

I have a p0303 trouble code on my 1999 Passat. Missfire on #3 cylinder. Coil is ok, I'm lost.

coil packs very prone to failing... check compression for good readings (at least 100 - 120psi) if okay try new spark plug as these can fail under load and its the cheapest part to replace to eliminate. if misfire still present swap cylinder 3 coil with cylinder 1 coil and see if fault code moves to cylinder 1. hope this advice helps

My 2004 passat started running ruff and i checked the codes and got p0011 and p0303? 96000 miles I think it may be the timing belt but I dont want to change it for nothing???

If you haven't changed the timing belt at 60,000 miles then you NEED to. The P0303 is cylinder 3 misfire. If the plugs have not been changed, time to inspect and change.
  • P0011 "A" Camshaft Position - Timing Over-Advanced or System Performance (Bank 1)
  • Cure the misfire first and clear the codes. The misfire could be what is causing the other code.

Misfiring passat 1.9 tdi when under load from 50 mph, foot to the floor. cured only by easing off throttle. Also occasion rattle when under load through 2nd and 3rd gear when accelerating under load. 2005...

Find the bad sparkplug or wire; or miswired plugs; or distributor foolishness (carbon buildup, dirt, cracked component in there at bottom....)  Maybe there's a leak or sediment in the F/I vacuum tee someplace that would cause funky load artifacts like that misfire, if the plugs all look honest.
