SOURCE: HHR back hatch problem
There is a small hook on the right(driver side) of the latch that you can push with a screwdriver (it is hard to see you have to poke around a little)after you take the panel plug out of the rear door cover.I have the same problem I found that that the coil has become week and it does not have enough power to push the lath open. GOOD LUCK email@example.com

to open from inside, there is a handle in the midle pop the plastic covers and you will see two scrwes, take the handle out and you will see a road push it to your left( passenger side) and door will open, then check the wires on the top passenger side of the rear door, this wires will brake from open and closing the door.

The ignition key will not come out of the ignition cylinder with a bad battery. There are jump post to the battery so you do not have to remove the battery cover to jump the car. Once you open the engine hood, look at the battery cover and look for the positive jump post, it will be marked and the ground will be anywhere you can ground the jumper cable in the engine bay. Once you have the engine running or you connected the jumper cables with the other car running, you can remove the key's from the ignition. Good luck and take care not to damage the pass lock system in your ignition lock.
