Question about 1999 Mazda Protege

1 Answer

I recently purchased a 1999 Mazda Protege 4 door sedan. The center inside brake light has gone out, and I can't figure out how to replace it. I can't find an owners manual, so I don't want to break the housing trying to remove it.

Open the trunk, and underneath the shelf, below the rear window, there should be 2 screws or bolts, remove them and the whole unit can be removed from inside, At least this is how most of them are.

Periodic no start of 1997 Mazda Protege

Dave, Nuetral Saftey switch will not make the accessories not work. Sounds like a loose or corroded, battery cable.. Check that first.. If the cables are tight and clean.. Check the condition of the battery.. Sams club or Costco will check it for you for free.. Possibly the auto parts stores will too.

I changed the shoes and brake cables from the mazda protege 1999 and does not work properly. The front cable is set to the maximum adjustment and when I pull the brake lever the brakes do not brake...

Hi Luigi, Re check to ensure your shoes are properly installed Also you need to manually adjust the shoes so when you turn your tire you should hear a slight drag of the shoes on the inner drum. If you have too much play, your cable will be out of limit even if its set to maximum adjustment. If you had previously manually adjusted the shoes then double check to see if that is the proper cables you purchase for the vehicle and make sure it is not binding.

1999 mazda protege headlights

The head lights are powered by the battery through the ignition switch. The headlight relay may be malfunctioning.

I have found a link for your car in case you wish to replace. It's the same I use to buy parts for my car. I hope it's useful.

Check the wiring to the alternator for signs of overheated connectors, replace as needed and don't use crimp connectors solder all wiries and shrink tube them to insuklate the solder joints.

I have same problem and have found the lower light to have a malfunction in the socket. Mazda says replace brake harness. Cheap fix junk yard but same prob can come back. Also does your cruise work? may be related to switch on brake pedal.

Have a short gone through 3 alternators/ 93 protege

THE VOLTAGE REGULATOR IS INSIDE THE PCM AND NOT THE ALTERNATOR. IF YOU KEEP BURNING UP THE ALTERNATOR THEN THE REGULATOR IS OVER CHARGING. YOU WILL HAVE TO REPLACE THE PCM TO FIX THE PROBLEM. THE PCM IS LOCATED UNDER THE CENTER CONSOLE IN FRONT OF THE SHIFTER.

Did they check the wiring in the ECM wiring loom? The car's computer would have a separate wiring and have a lot of them inside compared to the rest of the car. This happened to me once and had the car ECM rewired because of it.
