It's like a transmisson fluid. Go to a saturn dealer and get a quart of fluid, I find that auto part stores don't stock the right stuff. Open hood, on driver side, look down, you should see a dip stick, something like an oil dip stick. you will need a funnel, put it in the hole, and pour a little at a time and keep checking it until it's at the full mark.

Important: Routine inspection of the transaxle fluid is not required. Transaxle fluid inspection is only required if there is a symptom indicating a concern with the fluid.
  1. Park the vehicle on a flat level surface.
  2. Operate the vehicle in order for the transmission fluid temperature to reach the normal operating range. Specification
    Transaxle normal temperature: 60-70 degrees C (140-158 degrees F)
  3. With the engine at idle, manual shift through all transaxle ranges and return to the PARK position. Leave the engine idling.
  4. Clean any dirt or debris away from the area of the transaxle fluid level indicator.
  5. Remove the transaxle fluid level indicator bolt (1) from the transaxle.
  6. Remove the transaxle fluid level indicator (2).
  7. Wipe away any transaxle fluid from the indicator.
  8. Insert the indicator into the transaxle until fully seated.
  9. Remove the indicator and inspect the level and the condition of the oil on the indicator:
    • Transmission fluid level at normal operating temperature (1)
    • Transmission fluid level if cold (2)
  10. If the fluid level is incorrect inspect for the following conditions:
    • Fluid below level, inspect for a leak.
    • Fluid above level, inspect for contamination of the fluid.
Important: The tranaxle uses T-IV fluid, GM P/N 88900925 (Canadian P/N 22689186). The fluid is normally red in color. The oil may darken in color with more miles on a vehicle.

The dashboard daytime running lights indicator symbol has quit lighting up in my 2003 L200 saturn sedan. The lights do work just not the indicator. I looked in the manual and saw the relay ciruit , but no...

The running light indicator bulb may have failed, remove the cluster and check the bulb. If the bulb has a white housing the part number is 21019273 if the bulb has a yellow housing the part number is21019274. You may have to get the bulb from a GM/Saturn dealer. Thank you. PS There is not a fuse for the individual bulb.

My 5 speed 1999 Saturn SL2 is leaking transaxle fluid. What can cause this to happen?

You probably blew the differential pin and it punched a hole in the transmission. Get underneath and look for a fist sized hole in your transmission. If it is there time to replace the transmission. Can be done in a day with basic tools.

Location of transmission (automatic) dipstick

You DO NOT have one.

There is a small bolt/plug in the transmission above the pan that needs to be removed. The fluid will run out if it's overfilled. The transmission needs to be at room temperature or a little warmer to check the level.

The fluid level screw is intended to be used for diagnosing a transaxle fluid leak or resetting the transaxle fluid level after service that involves a loss of fluid.
The fluid level should be checked when the transaxle is near Room temperature or at 40°C (104°F).
CAUTION: Removal of the fluid level screw when the transaxle fluid is hot may cause injury. Use care to avoid contact of transaxle fluid to exhaust pipe.
The engine must be running when the transaxle fluid level screw is removed, or excessive fluid loss will occur. Since the actual fluid level is unknown, stand clear when removing the fluid level screw. Have a container ready to capture any lost fluid.
WARNING: Do not turn the engine off with the fluid level screw removed as you can be injured by hot transaxle fluid being expelled out of the fluid check hole.

  1. Let vehicle idle for three to five minutes with accessories off.
  2. Apply brake
  3. Move shift lever through all gear ranges, pausing three seconds in each range.
  4. Place shift lever in Park. Important: Vehicle must be kept level on the hoist.
  5. Raise vehicle on hoist.
  6. Place oil container under fluid level screw.
  7. Remove the fluid level screw with the engine running at idle.
  8. Fluid level should be at the bottom of the fluid check hole. Because the transaxle operates correctly over a range of fluid levels, fluid may or may not drain out of the fluid check hole when the fluid level screw is removed. If fluid drains through the fluid check hole, this transaxle may have been overfilled. When fluid stops draining, the fluid level is correct and the fluid level screw may be installed. If fluid does not drain through the fluid check hole, the transaxle fluid level may be low. Proceed to ADDING TRANSAXLE FLUID.
  9. Install fluid level screw. Tighten 12 N.m (106 lb in)
  10. Lower vehicle.
  11. Shut off engine.
Adding Transaxle Fluid:
  1. With the engine running, add fluid at the vent cap location in half liter (1 pint) increments until fluid drains through the fluid check hole. Allow the fluid to finish draining through the fluid check hole.
  2. Install fluid level screw. Tighten 12 N.m (106 lb in)
  3. Lower vehicle

Leaking transmission know were to ckeck

This is the procedure for check the fluid level if you have a automatic transmission, I hope this helps.

Be sure that transmission fluid temperature is at least 104° F (40° C). Models with 2.2L engine: To access check/fill plug: In the engine compartment, remove clamp from air hose behind cooling fan. Separate air tube from the hose and push the tube back towards the transaxle. Remove the clip holding the two power steering lines together. All Models: From underneath vehicle remove the transaxle check/fill plug with engine running. Fluid level should be even with hole. Add fluid as needed until fluid flows from hole. Replace check/fill plug and torque to 9 ft. lbs. (12 Nm).
