Question about 2001 Buick LeSabre

1 Answer

EGR Valve On My 2001 Buick LeSabre 3.8, HOW? does the EGR Valve Come apart?? I was going to Remove Mine and Clean it + Clean the Passageways coming into the EGR too...I feel it's worth a shot, and if it doesn't work THEN I can Buy a New One... Went to My Local NAPA Dealer and they Pulled a New Carter & a New Niehoff for Comparisons, But BOTH were the Same, can't "see" anyway to Dis-assemble them...any ideas?? I use to R&R and Rebuild Fuel Injection Systems on Diesels, so If I could just find a way to get This apart, I'm sure I could at Least Clean it, and bench test the Solenoid.

Too Bad...Have always preferred taking it apart to Thoroughly Clean! Don't Know about the Ford Cleaner, but Have some Cleaner I used for Injection Pumps (Safe on Rubber & Electrical Parts), and it Cleans Baked on Carbon really easy...so I guess I'll clean the Pintle and see what happens...will Re-Post if it works, or heaven-forbid it doesn't, lol...
Did Locate a New one for $79.00 (Delphi OEM Brand)...
    Thanks for all your Assists!!

If u mean can u take the valve apart the answer is no, i used to soak the valve in Ford combustion chamber cleaner and the use a screw driver to clean the cone shaped part of the valve called the pentile.

I have a 2001 GMC Jimmy 4.3, it surges at low speed but when accelerated runs fine. Any idea what the cause might be?

If EGR comes up, take it off and clean it, see if that clears it up, it may be sticking. Would also clean your throttle body, and replace fuel filter.

1990 lincoln towncar runs rough and wont idle. could it be egr valve

What you may find will help is to remove the air horn and clean a passage leading to the EGR valve. The passage should be at the base of the airhorn and underneath the gasket. There should be 8 bolts and a $10 gasket to change.

Your car type is set for a 1990 LeSabre and the written part indicates a Towncar. My fix is for the Towncar.

Giving a p0404 code

  • P0404 - Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Open Position Performance There is a very good chance that carbon has built up in the eger pintle keeping it open. It may be possible to remove the egr valve and clean it or replace it.

2000 buick lesabre engine code p1404

P1404 - Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Closed Position Performance The egr valve is stuck possibly due to carbon buildup. It may be possible to remove the egr valve and clean it with throttle body cleaner or induction cleaner. If the pintle can not be unstuck then the valve egr will probably need replaced.

Runs uneven and very rough was told the egr is bad and the timing may be off do the symptoms match the answers i was given?

You can take the egr valve off and clean it by removing the torx screws, Be careful not to tear the gasket that is under base plate of eger, after you remove the screws. You can purchase a new gasket that goes between the egr and manifold. These egr valves are expensive but you can clean them. Be sure to clean under the egr valve in the manifold to get rid of the carbon build-up. After scraping it loose, crank it up for a few seconds to blow out the sut. Timing and gears do not go bad on a 3800 engine. Check for vacuumn leaks at the three port valve on firewall. Follow the cruise vac. to it. They turn grey and fall apart and will leak. Mine has 298.000 miles on it. reply

1992 Buick LaSabre. Where is the EGR valve?

The EGR valve may have a protective cover on it:

After removing the cover, the egr valve is beneath, you will need to remove retaining clips to remove the egr valve.
