check you owners manual for the procedure to trip the interlock out so you can shift it
you probably have a bad or misadjusted interlock switch

is the level of fluid ok ? im afraid your transmission went bad not because of the starter change but it just happen at that time

Have a shop put it on a rack and then they can isolate the noise and what is causing it. This is far cheaper then just throwing parts at it which is not a very bright thing to do money wise and likely will not fix the problem. There also may be a factory service bulletin on the noise. Join a KIA owners online forum and ask the questions of other owners, a very HELPFUL source of fix information. Good luck with this.
