1990 Chevrolet celebrity doesn't want to turn over?

Im 95% sure its a weak running fuel pump. Most of the time an engine that backfires is out of time tho. I would
check this first, as this is the problem 95% of the time. It could
also be bad fuel, a bad catalytic converter (rare) A bad coil, distributer cap or igniton module will definatly cause it. A fuel injector that is spraying excessive fuel out will cause an engine to backfire. Burned or leaking valves will cause it (rare).

Exhaust manifold turned red hot

Think the timing belt jumped a few teeth

Now you have to replace the timing belt, water pump & pulleys,
and you have overheated & ruined the exhaust converters &
oxygen sensors as well

Hope that is all

$1,500 maybe you'll be good to go

Motor buckles almost starts buckles like timing is off could it be catalyc converter

I doubt it is the cat.
If the cat is plugged up the engine should start but have no power.
Yes it could have jumped time or you could have a problem with the distributor or the cap and rotor. It could be firing on the wrong cylinders if the cap and rotor are worn out.

My car is a 1991 olds cutlass supreme.. my car started acting up on Saturday - I got gas, and I tried to start it, it wouldn't catch-- it would turn over, but wouldn't start. the car made a backfiring...

Check timing chain. Shoot a timing light at the marks on the crank, and see if they are jumping around or staying in one place. If theyre jumping a lot, the chain has jumped. If there is no light flashing at all, it may be broken, or coil, or etc. Check those first.

If it is a stopped up converter,it would try and start, the timing chain would be more like the problem,It would have jumped time. But have a code reader put on the obd2 connector to check the codes,it could be the cam sensor,or crankshaft sensor causing the problem.

Fuel filter.or catalitic converter. I had 44000 on my Monte Carlo when it acted like it could not breath. The catalitic converter was clogged. I got a new high flow type.GM covered my replacement.
