Question about Cars & Trucks

I have a 1992 Olds Ciera with an auto Antenna. The antenna is in the up position, will not go down, and the antenna motor keeps running. Can I cut power to the motor to stop the motor without dis-assemblying the body panels to get to the motor?

The antenna should have its own fuse. Check the fuse box for a fuse location marked PWR ANT or similar. Good Luck.

Thank you for your suggestion. Unfortunately, there is no separate fuse for the power antenna. I checked the owners manual fuse box diagram and it does not indicate which fuse the power antenna is connected to. I was hoping if someone knew which fuse it is connected to, or if there was some way to identify the antenna motor ground wire to cut it and stop the motor. Disconnecting the battery is the only way to stop the motor right now. But there must be a way to get to the antenna motor wires to disconnect it.

I wanted to add information to disconnect a running antenna motor in a 1992 Oldsmobile Ciera. Pretty simple: Remove the inner plastic liner of the glove box by removing 7 or 8 hex screws holding the liner in place. Remove the plastic liner. Behind the liner, there is a connector screwed to the back of the liner. The connector has two red wires entering it with a white, green and gray wire exiting out of the connector to the antenna motor. Pull the white, green and gray wire connector out of the connector and you've disconnected the antenna motor. Assemble the plastic liner back into the glove box and you are good to go. If the antenna is in the up position, your radio will work just fine, but the antenna will stay in the up position.

Hello, you need a new mast installed in your antenna, or a new whole unit.
If you open the trunk and on the right side by the ant. pull the mat down a little. You should now see the ant. About halfway up you will see some wires. If you disconnect either one of them your ant will quit running. The are plugged into the relay, so is is best to unplug the car harness side, if possible, but it does not matter which you do.

SOURCE: 1992 celica auto-antenna: motor runs but antenna

U could buy a new antennae rod only and replace the broken one!

The plastic rod gear that dirves the rod up & down is alread broken thats why it doesnt work anymore.

It is cheaper to replace the rod only!

Antenna motor runs while the radio is on or off. The antenna is stuck in the extended position. When the car is shut off the antenna motor continues to run to retract the antenna, but it doesn't go

You need to pull the fuse for the antenna or just unplug it. It has a fairly ridgid plastic wire that pushes the antenna up and down. Works fine until the wire breaks then it rolls up (antenna down) but it never increases resistance because the antenna never comes down , it's like a fishing reel when the lure breaks off, so the motor thinks that the antenna is still coming down and it will run and run and run trying to do it's job. Your lucky it stuck up and not down. If you want your antenna to go up and down again you'll have to buy and install a new one.
