SOURCE: engine

possibly a plugged catalytic converter?

SOURCE: bogs down at high acceleration

Sounds like a plugged catylic convertor, GM has a Special Policy adjustment that covers the catylic convertors for 10 years or 120,000 miles (190,000 km), whichever occurs first, from the date the vehicle was originally placed in service, regardless of ownership. This is for 2001-2002 models with 3.4L or 3.8L engines. If you have a 3.8L engine you want to get this fixed soon, I have seen people drive these things so long with the convertor plugged that they melt a hole in the plastic intake plenum where the EGR port comes into the intake behind the throttle body.

SOURCE: The car had been sitting for a year or so.It started ok ,ran ok .

Do NOT ever add a cleaner or some chemical solvent to your gas or engine. Do go and have the car put on the computer scanner. It could very possibly be the O2 Sensor. You did not mention, however if it would sputter upon losing power on acceleration. If it does it is definitely the sensor. But...it is not like cars used to be. They have the control modules computerized and when you get into troubleshooting you should have the computer feedback, first. Hope this helps. I have a 1998 2 door Cavalier of which I bought brand new in March of 1999. I love this little car and replaced the plugs and wires at 125, have kept the oil changed always and of course the brakes are always changed out about every two years. It helps to keep your rear brakes adjusted to keep the fronts from wearing out.

Car idles fine, but sputters, bogs and dies if gas pedal is pressed.

new spark plugs this decade. (a tune up?0
the filter is part of all 60k tuneups. letting it clog wrecks good pumps.
my wild guess, its lack of fuel flow, do to old filter.
or low fuel pressure.
car is identical to a Corolla. so is not unique or rare as some Geo cars are.
the cam belt not changes, invites valve kissing piston tops. BOOM
end of engine. (costs more to fix then worth of car)
the word is bogging, my engine bogs
if if bogs WOT (wide open throttle) and dont catch up < ITS NOT THE TPS. ever.
tps bad causes short bogs, called hesitations.
The map sensor , is what measure air flow and the ECU matches fuel to this air flow.
my guess, is it does that, but fuel pressure is like 15PSI, bad.

2005 Dodge Stratus 2.4L,runs good until you start to drive it, then it bogs down and falls on its face

could be clogged fuel filter or low fuel pressure due to a weak pump or fuel pressure regulator.

What would case my 99 gmc jimmy to bog down and run rough when giving it gas

If you have replaced the fuel filter this year, the next thing to check is fuel pressure with a gauge. GM vortec engines require 60psi or more to run.
If the check engine light is on you should also have the computer scanned for trouble codes.

Have a 2000 honda passport its bogging down when you give it gas its starting to do it all the time so u cannot pass any one cause it boggs down nd you dont have enough power to pass

Have you tried replacing the fuel filter? Bogging down is such a generic discription that it could mean with your AC on or off; whether the vehicle is running hot; etc. So I will have to go with the most common reasons which is fuel filter and fuel pump; followed by fouled plugs and plug wires.

The car was running fine, it hesitated once, then about a half a mile later it began to have no power wnd when I gave it gas it would bog down. Then it died and would not start. I have got it to start...

it sounds like your fuel pump may have gone out disconnect the fuel line at the fuel filter or the fuel rail which ever is easier to get to, then try to start the car if fuel does not spray from the line you will know that it is the problem.
