When you replace a distributor, there is a very detailed way to make sure that the new one is in the same position as the old one was. It is driven off the cam shaft and is synchronized to fire the plugs at EXACT intervals. Get the Haynes car book for your Honda Accord at a car parts store and read it carefully!

1996 City chico. No fire on the distributor. I replaced the electronic coil, had the distributor and the "module" tested. Still nothing. strater motor turns bur car doesnt start! Its got the small sol

Get yourself a test light/continuity tester, the one with the point on it, turn the ignition switch on and check if have power on the wire to the distributor. Since the distributor's been tested, you know its good, so the only thing it could be is no power to the distributor.

No power to the distributor on a 1998 chyrsler sebring

This car uses a basic distributor. The coil gets power from the shut-down relay brown-red wire and the cam sensor is inside the distributor. The cam sensor gets power from the key switch brown-white wire.
The relay is powered from a fuse with battery power and turned on by the key switch.

I had the spark plug wires in the wrong place on the distributor cap and tried to start the car - I put them in the right place and now it won't start. what do I do?

ARE YOU SURE THE SPARK PLUGS/SPARK PLUG WIRES WERE THE INITIAL PROBLEM?

bad spark plugs should have either white or black discoloration on the spark tips, or be saturated with oily gunk on the spark tips. bad spark plug wires usually can only be ruled out by replacing them with new wires. your distributor(cap) may be to blame, so examine the distributor rotor for wear.

HOWEVER, first test the battery for charge with a voltometer/alternator. it should test 12 volts.

if the battery is charged, you should next test the ignition coil. unplug the ignition coil wire from the distributor end of the wire, and turn the key to the "start" position, while holding the distributor end of the ignitioin coil wire a fraction of an inch from a grounded/unpainted part of the car's metal frame/body. if the ignition coil is good, you will get an obvious spark/arc when the key is turned to the "start" position.

if the ignition coil tests good, you shoud then examine the distributor cap/rotor for wear, and replace the distributor cap if it is questionable. next, you move to the spark plugs/spark plug wires. replace the spark plugs if they are questionablke (as you have likely done) and then replace the spark plug wires. if all of this os done, and it still not start, then you PROBABLY have bad compression, or a broken timing belt/chain. there is a special meter to check piston compression, and, if the compression checks good, i FINALLYwould move on the the most expensive possibility of the timing belt/chain being broken.

i would recommend purchasing a "hayne's" or "chilton's" repair manual for your specific model vehicle at an auto parts store for around $20. all the diagnistic techniques/procedures i have mentioned are illustrated or described in these type of manuals. i am not aware of a method to check the timing chain in detail, buit a rough description of such a procedure would be to remove the cylinder cover, put the car in gear, and attempt to push/tow the car a very short distance while in gear/drive- afterwards checking the rocker arms to see if they moved while the vehicle was moved in gear. this procedure should also be described in detail in a "chilton's" or "hayne's" manual.

How do you replace the ignition pick up assembly on an 85 Mercury Grand Marquis?

IT MAY BE EASIER TO CHANGE THE DISTRIBUTOR, REMOVE THE DISTRIBUTOR CAP TIE IT OUT OF THE WAY TURN THE ENGINE SLOWLY UNTIL THE ROTOR IS POINTING STRAIGHT UP OR STRAIGHT DOWN OR STRAIGHT AT SOMETHING,TURN OFF IGNITION SWITCH, TAKE THE KEYS OUT. REMOVE THE DISTRIBUTOR HOLD DOWN BOLT FORM UNDER THE DISTRIBUTOR,UNPLUG THE WIRE HARNESS [NOT THE SPARK PLUG WIRES] FROM THE DISTRIBUTOR, WIGGLE & LIFT THE DISTRIBUTOR OUT OF THE ENGINE. ABOVE ALL,
DO NOT, DO NOT, ALLOW THE ENGINE TO BE TURNED IN ANY WAY UNTIL THE DISTRIBUTOR HAS BEEN SECURED BACK IN THE ENGINE.

1991 Honda Accord won't start

Could be the igniter inside the distributor (unless you have an external coil). Look on your distributor to see if there are 5 wires leading from it. If there are, you have an external coil that is likely bad... If you have only 4 wires coming from your distributor it is most likely the internal ignition inside the distributor ($50.+). AS SOON AS YOU GET IT STARTED CHANGE YOUR OIL. Your fuel pump has loaded your cylinders with fuel and it has probably leaked down into your oil pan making your oil thin and mixed with gas.

98 olds intrigue sometimes turns on

the first thing to look at is the electrical system. You can start it up sometimes and not others when turning the key. So remember the key goes to the battery, starter, solenoid, distributor / rotor, coil, and spark plugs. This is just the basics. You need to check all of these first. If you haven't done a good tune up on it lately this is your chance to rule out a few things and help your mpg's by replacing your spark plugs, wires, distributor, and rotor. You should also check your key starter switch. there are some electronics there, you can check this by buying a keyless switch and wiring this out. The keyless switch will rull out the key switch.

after checking this out let me know what happens, also you may want to take the car to a auto part store and check the computer, most will do this for free, just call them and they will tell you if it does it. If they say they only do it when the engine light is on tell them it goes on and off and they will check it.

let me know what happens
