Question about Cars & Trucks
My 68 Impala will not start unless i push the gas pedal to the floor and then will not stay running unless i keep pressure on the gas pedal. I changed my plug wires, distributor cap(HEI), and coil pack. Maybe my fuel pump or accelerator pump is bad? Any help is appreciated.
It is your carburetor the fuel float is set to high and probably leaks. If it older than 10yrs old and has never been rebuilt . do that if you want to save yourself a bunch of time and little more money make the investment of a Brand New not rebuilt. if you get the carb manufactor specs matched to your motor , Out of the box, it will be very close to being on the money .

SOURCE: won't start unless you push
it sounds like fuel pump is going. pressure should be around 40 psi.
Or it could be flooding. Holding gas pedal to floor during cranking of the engine, shuts off fuel flow through the injectors to clear a flooded engine. After engine is running again, it lets fuel flow.
If you have a Mass Air Flow Sensor in the iar intake tube, clean it with spray carb cleaner several times.
Also, try disconnecting the oxygen sensor to see if it helps. It will turn your check engine light on, but you can cycle key from off to "on" 40 times to turn it off.
